Landscape genetics of wild boar (Sus scrofa) in Central Europe

Abstract:

Prase divoké (Sus scrofa) patří mezi nejrozšířenější druhy rodu Sus, které jsou intenzivně obhospodařovány člověkem a také mezi nejrozšířenější kopytníky na světě. Schopnost adaptace tohoto druhu na neustálé změny prostředí je vysoká. Tato práce je zaměřena především na genetickou strukturu studované populace v západních Karpatech a přilehlých oblastech, odkud byly sbírány vzorky svalových tkání. Jako genetický marker byla pouţita kontrolní oblast mtDNA, která vykazuje vysokou variabilitu a je vhodná pro analýzy na vnitrodruhové úrovni. Byl vyuţit přístup krajinné genetiky, který nám umoţňuje studovat, do jaké míry ovlivňují krajinné prvky genetickou strukturu populace. Celkem bylo analyzováno 98 jedinců, pro které bylo identifikováno 6 haplotypů. Tito jedinci byli rozděleni do tří subpopulací, pro které byly počítány populační charakteristiky, a bylo porovnáno, jak korelují hranice subpopulací s krajinnými prvky. Výsledky byly porovnány s ostatními výzkumy, které byly provedeny v Evropě.

Abstract:

The wild boar (Sus scrofa) is one of the most widespread Sus species and ungulates in the world. The wild boar population is intensively managed by humans. The species adapts to constant changes of the environment easily. The aim of the thesis is to focus on the genetic structure of the population in western Carpathians and adjacent regions, where the samples of muscle tissue were collected. The mt DNA control region was used as a genetic marker, as this locus proved to be highly variable an useful for intraspecific analyses. The approach of landscape genetics was used, enabling to study the impact of landscape attributes to population genetic structure. Overall, 98 individuals were analyzed for which 6 haplotypes were identified. The individuals were divided into three subpopulations. The population´s characteristics were calculated for the three subpopulations. I dealt with the correlation of the subpopulations levels with the landscape elements. The results were compared with other research studies.
