Identifying challenges of virtual teams interaction in IT organizations

Abstract:

S rozvojem komunikačních technologií se zvyšuje počet společností, které se zaměřují na práci na dálku a pracují tedy s virtuálními týmy namísto týmů tradičních. S rozvojem pandemie COVID-19 byla řada společností k tomuto kroku přinucena bez předchozí dostatečné přípravy a detailního plánu. Nedostatek vůle organizací adaptovat se na takovou situaci přináší výzvy, které mohou mít zásadní dopady na jejich fungování. Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na identifikaci potenciálních výzev spojených s přechodem k virtuálním týmům u IT organizací, a zvažuje řadu faktorů, které mohou tyto týmy ovlivnit, stejně tak jako na problematiku řízení virtuálních týmů a případné ztížení role projektového manažera. Tato práce dále analyzuje důvody přechodu k virtuálním týmům v souvislosti s pandemií COVID-19. Výsledky této práce mohou mít přínos pro další výzkum v této a příbuzných oblastech. Společnosti, které zvažují přechod k virtuálním týmům, případně pokud jsou k tomuto kroku přinuceny okolnostmi, mohou využít výstupy této práce k identifikaci případných problémů i benefitů, lepší organizaci týmů a přípravě vhodné strategie.

Abstract:

With the development of communication technologies, an increasing number of companies opt for a switch to remote work and choose virtual teams rather than traditional ones. With the expansion of the COVID-19 virus pandemic, many companies were forced to switch to remote work without a significant prior preparation and a detailed plan. Companies' unwillingness to adapt in such situations brings challenges, which can have enormous consequences for the company's business. This thesis aims to identify potential challenges, emphasizing IT organizations that virtual teams bring, considering various factors that affect such teams and the problem of managing virtual teams and whether the role of project managers is more difficult in such teams. This thesis will further analyse the reasons why virtual teams are emerging and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, on the development of such teams. The results of this thesis can have a potential impact regarding other research in this and similar topics. Companies that opt for virtual teams and those who are forced to work in such an environment can use the results of this thesis to see potential problems or advantages in order to more easily organize their team and choose the right strategy promptly.
