Migration of Identity: Clients of the Project "Drug Services in Prison" Changing their Lifestyle

Abstract:

Z pozice odborného poradce projektu Drogové služby ve vzení (Sdružení Podané ruce) se zabývám procesem, kdy se klienti tohoto projektu snaží po výstupu z vzení naplnit své rozhodnutí zmnit svj životní styl smrem k ne-drogovému a ne-kriminálnímu. S použitím teoretického rámce sociální konstrukce reality, Foucaultova pojetí institucionáln produkované identity a Whiteovy metafory migrace identity a na základ svých zkušeností s klienty projektu Drogové služby ve vzení si kladu otázku, jakým zpsobem dochází k utváení nových identit bývalých uživatel drog po výstupu z vzení. Navrhuji model pechodu uživatel drog k novému životnímu stylu po výstupu z vzení a dále jej rozpracovávám s použitím získaných dat v rámci tematických rozhovor poízených se tymi bývalými uživateli drog po výstupu z vzení. Protože ve vzení lovk získává identitu delikventa a po celou dobu jeho pobytu je neustále zviditelována, proces zmny životního stylu ve smyslu transformace subjektivní reality technikami resocializace, jak o nich hovoí Berger a Luckmann, mže zaít až po propuštní z vzení. Nicmén už samotný pobyt ve vzení mže být pípravou na tuto zmnu, a to pedevším utvoením pedstavy preferované budoucnosti, navázáním vztah, které budou moci být udržitelné i po výstupu z vzení a vytvoením odstupu od pedchozích rolí. Daný jedinec se však zárove musí vyrovnat s komplikujícími faktory, které pináší nejistota ve vzení, výstupní krize a zviditelování identity delikventa po výstupu z vzení.

Abstract:

As a counsellor of the project Drug Service in the Prison (NGO Podane ruce) I examine the process when clients of this project are trying to fulfill their decision to change their lifestyle towards non-drug and non-criminal after prison release. With the framework of social construction of reality, Foucauldian concept of institutional production of identity and Whites metaphor migration of identity and with drawing on my experience on the clients of project Drug Services in Prison I ask a question, how are the new identities of former drug users after prison release constructed. I suggest a model of migrating of drug users towards a new lifestyle after prison release and I elaborate it on the basis of gathered information from thematic interviews which I held with four former drug users after prison release. Since the identity of criminal is developed simultaneously with the access to prison and it is coming to the fore during the whole stay, the process of changing ones lifestyle in the sense of transforming individual reality cannot start until the prison release. Nevertheless, the sole stay in prison may be a preparation for this change, especially through creating the image of preffered future, building relationships sustainable after release and creating distance from former roles. The person simultaneously must settle with the complicating factors which are uncertainty in prison, crisis on release and criminal identity coming to the fore after release.
