German Personalities in North Moravia and Silesia - economic aspects

Abstract:

The Final thesis deals with business activities of German famous people living and working in Moravia and Silesia in the 18th and 19 centuries. The thesis focuses on individual entrepreneurs, their activities and influence on our history and contribution to the present days. There are described well-known personalities such as the Rothschilds and Larischs, but also to a lot of Moravians and Silesians lesser known influential entrepreneurs - Michael Thonet and Robert Kessler. In the shorter chapters other German celebrities are mentioned. The goal is to have a closer look at the history of the Moravian-Silesian region, from the view of the industrial benefit to later generations. The thesis consists of theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part presents an insight into the history of two administrative units, Moravia and Silesia, as well as a description of the life-stories and public activities of German businessmen. The practical part focuses on getting the image of public awareness about the German famous people running a business in Moravia and Silesia namely by means of a questionnaire. Attention is also paid to the evaluation of regional importance and benefits of these entrepreneurs.

Abstract:

Předložená závěrečná práce se zabývá podnikatelskými aktivitami německých osobností působících na Moravě a ve Slezsku v 18. a 19. století. Práce je zaměřena na jednotlivé podnikatele, jejich činnost a vliv na naši historii a přínos do dnešních časů. Jsou zde popisovány známé osobnosti jako jsou Rothschildové a Larischové, ale také mnohým Moravanům a Slezanům méně známí vlivní podnikatelé ? Michael Thonet a Robert Kessler. V kratších pasážích jsou pak zmiňovány další německé osobnosti. Cílem práce je přiblížení historie moravsko-slezského regionu, právě z pohledu průmyslového přínosu pozdějším generacím. Práce sestává z teoretické a empirické části. Teoretickou část představuje pohled do historie dvou správních celků, Moravy a Slezska, stejně jako popis životních osudů a veřejných aktivit německých podnikatelů. Empirická část je zaměřena na získání obrazu povědomí veřejnosti o německých osobnostech podnikajících na Moravě a ve Slezsku, a to formou dotazníkového šetření. Pozornost je rovněž věnována zhodnocení regionálního významu a přínosů těchto podnikatelů.
