V poslednej dobe sú finančné trhy vystavené vo väčšine prípadov nečakaným zmenám viac ako boli v minulosti. Práve finančné deriváty predstavujú nástroje, pomocou ktorých sa môžeme zabezpečiť proti neočakávaným zmenám, rizikám vyplývajúcich z obchodov.
