Foreign language teaching in the first nine grades at the schools in Zlin district

Abstract:

The submitted thesis focuses the problem of foreign languages education at elementary schools in the Czech Republic and compares the actual situation with the general tendency to introduce teaching of two foreign languages within the EU – i.e. English and one another language, stressing and preferring mainly the languages of neighbouring countries. You do not have to take a close look at the map to find out that of our neighbouring countries are German speaking – as a result of this this thesis pays relatively close attention to the issue of German language teaching. Another important issue represents the question of Polish language as well as the extraordinary status of Slovak language, where - although being a foreign language – there is no need to teach it, as there are so many shared historic and social circumstances and factors between Czech and Slovak. The practical part is based on a questionnaire research focusing the application of teaching plans in the very process of teaching a foreign language. This research has been carried out in a particular geographical area, namely in the Zlin region. In addition, the submitted thesis takes into consideration the current social discourse on the subject of introducing second foreign language in the framework of elementary education.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou výuky cizích jazyků na základních školách v České republice a porovnává její aktuální stav s obecnou tendencí prosazovat v rámci Evropské unie výuku dvou cizích jazyků, a sice anglického a jednoho dalšího, s důrazem na jazyky sousedních zemí. Podíváme-li se na mapu, zjistíme, že dva z našich sousedů jsou německy mluvícími zeměmi, čili bude v práci věnován poměrně značný prostor právě problematice výuky německého jazyka. V neposlední řadě také stojí otázka polštiny a výjimečného postavení slovenštiny, která, ač je v podstatě cizím jazykem, je díky historickýma společenským okolnostem natolik blízká češtině, že není důvodu ji vyučovat. Praktická část práce spočívá v dotazníkovém šetření a zabývá se aplikací výukových plánů v samotném vyučovacím procesu. Šetření bylo provedeno v konkrétní zeměpisné oblasti, a to ve Zlínském kraji, který má v tomto ohledu do jisté míry specifické postavení, neboť hraničí se Slovenskem, čili ono evropské doporučení učit se jazyku nejbližších sousedů odpadá. Zároveň je v práci zohledněna aktuální společenská diskuse na téma zavedení povinného druhého cizího jazyka v rámci základního školství.
