By means of intersubjective positioning, speakers can establish various kinds of relationship between themselves and the addressees or themselves and the 3rd parties. Díky interpersonální funkci jazyka můžou mluvčí ustanovit různé druhy vztahů mezi nimi a adresáty, či mezi nimi a třetími stranami.
