Professional opportunities of people with severe visual impairment

Abstract:

Diplomová práce nese název Pracovní uplatnění osob s těžkým postižením zraku a pro její zpracování byl zvolen kvalitativní výzkum. Diplomová práce obsahuje úvodní stranu, prohlášení a poděkování, obsah, úvod teoretickou a praktickou část, závěr, seznam literatury a také přílohy. Část teoretická je tvořena třemi kapitolami, přičemž každá z nich má čtyři podkapitoly. Část praktická je pak částí výzkumnou, kde je zrealizovaný výzkum podrobně zpracován. V přílohách je možné nalézt otázky k rozhovorům s respondenty a přehled studovaných oborů lidmi se zrakovým postižením na MU v Brně. První kapitola teoretické části je zaměřena na zraková postižení, jejich klasifikaci, charakteristiku zrakových onemocnění a vývojových vad, které se vyskytují u respondentů v praktické části Diplomové práce. Dále hlavní příčiny vzniku zrakového postižení a odlišnosti mezi získaným a vrozeným zrakovým postižením a také informace o kompenzaci zraku u těchto osob. Druhá kapitola pak obsahuje informace o kompetencích, které ovlivňují život osob se zrakovým postižením a jejich vliv na získání zaměstnání. Těmito kompetencemi je výchova dítěte se zrakovým postižením v rodině, kvalita života a osobnost člověka se zrakovým postižením, sociální vztahy těchto osob a vliv jejich zrakového postižení na získání úspěšného pracovního místa. Poslední kapitola teoretické části je pak zaměřena přímo na zaměstnávání osob se zrakovým postižením. Charakterizuje předprofesní a profesní přípravu těchto jedinců na jejich budoucí profesi a specifika jejich zaměstnávání. Dále informace o poradenství a podpoře, která je těmto jedincům, na trhu práce, poskytována. Na závěr této kapitoly je uvedena sociální a pracovní rehabilitace lidí se zrakovým postižením. V praktické části Diplomové práce je popsán stanovený cíl výzkumu, výzkumné otázky a charakteristika zvolené metodologie. Dále obsahuje charakteristiku výzkumného šetření a výzkumného vzorku. Také je zde podrobná interpretace výzkumného šetření a jeho závěry. Pro účely výzkumu bylo vybráno dvanáct respondentů, jimiž byli lidé s těžkým zrakovým postižením. S těmito lidmi byly uskutečněny rozhovory dle předem připravených otázek a respondenti při nich byli pozorováni. Rozhovory byly realizovány v neutrálním prostředí a nahrávány na diktafon a posléze doslovně přepsány. Na základě získaných informací byla vypracována podrobná obsahová analýza ze čtyř hlavních zvolených oblastí. Těmito okruhy byla kvalita předprofesní a profesní přípravy, podpora při hledání zaměstnání a pracovní zkušenosti, aktuální zaměstnání a spokojenost v něm a příčiny nezaměstnanosti a obtíže při hledání a získání zaměstnání u osob se zrakovým postižením.

Abstract:

The master thesis is called Employment of people with severe visual impairment and a qualitative research was chosen for its processing. The master’s thesis contains a title-page, declaration and acknowledgement, contents, introduction, theoretical and practical part, conclusion, list of sources and supplements. The theoretical part is made of three chapters where each of them has four subchapters. The practical part represents then the research part, where the implemented research is processed in detail. In the supplements, there is a possibility to find questions for the interviews with respondents and there is an overview of the fields which are studied by people with visual impairment at Masaryk University in Brno. The first chapter of the theoretical part is focused on visual impairments, on their classification, on characteristics of visual diseases and developmental defects which occur among the respondents part of the in the practical thesis. Then the main causes of the emergence of visual impairment and differences between acquired and congenital visual impairment as well as information about compensation of sight for those people. The second chapter then contains information about competences which affect lives of people with visual impairment and their influence on gaining a job. These competences are raising of a child with visual impairment in his or her family, quality of life and personality of an individual with visual impairment, social relations of those people and the influence of their visual impairment to obtain a successful job. The last chapter of the theoretical part is then focused directly on employing people with visual impairment. It characterizes the pre-vocational preparation and professional training of those individuals for their future profession and the specifics of their employing. Then some information about counselling and support which is provided to those individuals at the labour market. At the end of this chapter, social and vocational rehabilitation of people with visual impairment is mentioned. In the practical part of the thesis, the objective of the research, research questions and characteristics of the chosen methodology is described. Furthermore, it contains a characteristic of the research survey and of the research sample. There is also a detailed interpretation of the research survey and its conclusions. For the research purposes, twelve respondents were chosen – people with severe visual impairment. These people were interviewed according to prepared questions and meanwhile, they were being observed. The interviews were held in a neutral environment, recorded on a dictaphone and then literally rewrited. On the basis of the information obtained, a detailed content analysis was elaborated from the four main chosen sections. Those areas were the quality of pre-vocational preparation and professional training, the support during searching of an employment and the work experience, current employment and satisfaction in it as well as the causes of unemployment and difficulties with searching and gaining a job for people with visual impairment.
