Gentrification and its evidence in selected localities of Bratislava.

Abstract:

Paper presents different approaches to definition and explanation of gentrification processes. Key distinction is made between two forms of gentrification: (1) gentrification by actions of individuals or sweet equity gentrification and (2) developer led gentrification. Contemporary intra-urban gentrification research taken place in London uses the concept of habitus - the extreme useful tool of scientific exploration. New generation of scientists see gentrification as a postmodern form of social stratification. In cities out of global metropolies is process of marginal gentrification widely reported. Basic criterion of gentrification is process of change of population – displacement of previous residents from locality. Process is socially and psychologically harmful. Gentrification potential of Bratislava city is high – assessing regional types of housing, level of commodification of housing and changes in employment structures of city economy. In three selected areas are identified indicators of gentrification, marginal gentrification and other processes of neighbourhood renewal.

Abstract:

Práca poskytuje prehľad o rôznych prístupoch vedcov k definovaniu a vysvetleniu gentrifikačných procesov. Kľúčovým rozlíšením, ktoré pomáha tento proces uchopiť vo výskume je odlíšenie dvoch foriem gentrifikácie: prvou je postupná gentrifikácia komunity, druhou gentrifikácia developermi. Pri skúmaní variability intraurbánnej gentrifikácie z Londýna sa ukázal ako extrémne užitočný nástroj koncept habitusu. Gentrifikácia je novou generáciou chápaná ako postmoderná forma sociálnej stratifikácie. V mestách, ktoré nie sú globálnymi metropolami je možné pozorovať proces marginálnej gentrifikácie. Ten sa zvykne prelínať s ďalšími typmi obnovy lokalít. Základným kritériom pre identifikovanie gentrifikácie v lokalite je výmena obyvateľov – vytláčanie pôvodných obyvateľov gentrifikovaných štvrtí, či už priame alebo nepriame. Tento proces patrí medzi najzávažnejšie dopady gentrifikácie. Gentrifikačný potenciál mesta Bratislavy je vysoký – posúdiac povahu regionálnych typov bývania, mieru komodifikácie bývania a súčasné zmeny zamestnaneckej štruktúry mesta. Na úrovni troch vybraných lokalitách sú identifikované indikátory procesov gentrifikácie, marginálnej gentrifikácie alebo iných procesov obnovy lokalít.
