Prostitution and Violence Against Women

Abstract:

Práce analyzuje dva fenomény – prostituci a násilí na ženách. Ve své práci se zaměřuji na přiblížení problematiky násilí na ženách a jeho formy. Z obecné roviny se pak přenáším ke konkrétní skupině postižených žen – k prostitutkám. Práce se věnuje prostituci jako veřejnému problému, kde nechybí ani pohled genderových a feministických studií, právní přístupy k danému fenoménu nebo proměny sociálního statusu ženy-prostitutky v čase. Propojení prostituce a násilí spatřuji v nízkém postavení prostitutky ve společnosti a jeho zneužití k legitimizaci (nebo neviditelnosti) násilí páchaného na ženách-prostitutkách, a to jak samotným násilníkem, tak celou společností. V závislosti na tomto zjištění ve své práci analyzuji rizika tohoto přístupu pro celou společnost a nabízím úvahu o možných variantách řešení tohoto problému v praxi.

Abstract:

This essay analyzes two phenomena – prostitution and violence against women. It focuses on main problems concerning violence against women and its forms. The work departs from general context to the concrete group of women which is affected by violence – prostitutes. Prostitution is studied, described etc. in terms of public policy, law and approach of gender and feminist studies. This essay also consults the social status of woman-prostitute and its changes in time, too. The connection between prostitution and violence against women can be seen in low social status of prostitute in the society and its exploitation to legitimize (or make invisible) violence against women-prostitutes. Therefore I try to analyze this approach, which can be observed in society as a whole, from the point of possible risks and offer various ways of dealing with the problem.
