Simplifying the Chinese Writing, the Background of the Project in the 1950s

Abstract:

Předkládaná bakalářská diplomová práce pojednává o zjednodušení čínského písma a pozadí vývoje reformy, zejména v padesátých letech. První část práce stručně popisuje vývoj čínského písma a samotný vznik myšlenky na jeho zjednodušení ke konci devatenáctého století. Druhá část se věnuje jednotlivým reformním metodám a krokům čínské vlády ke zjednodušení písma, které proběhly v padesátých až osmdesátých letech. Třetí část popisuje důsledky, které do budoucna přinesla tato reforma jak z praktického, tak i pedagogického hlediska. Účelem práce je rozšířit povědomí o pozadí zjednodušení písma v padesátých letech, o důvodech potřeby reforem a jaké byly důsledky na vzdělanost a gramotnost v Čínské lidové republice.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on simplifying the Chinese characters and the background of its development, particularly in the 1950s. The first part of the thesis briefly describes the development of Chinese characters and the birth of the idea to simplify the characters themselves at the end of 19th century. The second part follows chinese government‘s individual steps and methods of the reform to simplify characters from the 50’s until the 80’s. The last part describes the consequences that followed the reform from the practical and pedagogical point of view. The main purpose of the thesis is to broaden the knowledge about the background of Chinese characters simplification in the 50’s, reasons for the reforms and what were their consequences on education and literacy in the People’s Republic of China.
