Analysis and comparison of the development of salaries and wages in the Czech Republic in the years 2005-2021

Abstract:

Cílem práce je analyzovat a komparovat vývoj platů a mezd v České republice, dle pohlaví, věku, vzdělání, odvětví a krajů, v kontextu makroekonomických ukazatelů v letech 2005-2021. Autor představuje teoretické přístupy k problematice mezd a nezaměstnanosti od předklasického období až po monetarismus, popisuje pojmy a ukazatele, tedy plat, mzdu, průměrný hrubý plat, průměrnou hrubou mzdu, medián hrubého platu, medián hrubé mzdy. Dále popisuje rigidity na trhu práce, jakými jsou odbory, minimální mzda a podpora v nezaměstnanosti. Předkládá výzkumy, studie a jejich závěry, týkající se dané problematiky a uvádí relevantní východiska, pro analytickou část. V praktické části autor popisuje, analyzuje a komparuje vývoj makroekonomických ukazatelů, minimální mzdy, platů a mezd obecně v České republice, za celé sledované období 2005-2021. Pro vývoj platů, mezd a nezaměstnanosti, dle pohlaví, věku, vzdělání, odvětví a krajů, rozděluje sledované období na roky 2005-2010 a 2011-2021. Součástí práce jsou hospodářsko-politická doporučení. Ze závěrů provedeného výzkumu vyplývá, že průměrné meziroční tempo růstu platů, bylo vyšší než průměrné tempo růstu mezd a u většiny proměnných, platy předstihly mzdy. Dynamika růstu se však v průběhu sledovaného období výrazně lišila, v závislosti na fázi hospodářského cyklu, politickém vedení a dalších faktorech.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to analyse and compare the development of salaries and wages in the Czech Republic by gender, age, education, industry and regions in the context of macroeconomic indicators in the years 2005-2021. The author presents theoretical approaches to the issue of wages and unemployment from the pre-classical period to monetarism, describes concepts and indicators such as salary, wage, average gross salary, average gross wage, median gross salary, median gross wage. Thesis also describes rigidity in the labor market, such as unions, the minimum wage and the unemployment support. It presents research, studies and their conclusions regarding the given issue and presents relevant starting points for the analytical part. In the practical part, the author describes, analyses and compares the development of macroeconomic indicators, minimum wages, salaries and wages in general in the Czech Republic for the entire period 2005-2021. For the development of salaries, wages and unemployment according to gender, age, education, industry and regions, the observed period is divided into the years 2005-2010 and 2011-2021. The last part of this thesis provides policy implications. The average year-over-year growth rate of salaries was higher than the average growth rate of wages, and for most variables, salaries outpaced wages. However, growth dynamics varied significantly over the monitored period, depending on the stage of the economic cycle, political leadership and others.
