Visual Differentiation Test Item Analysis

Abstract:

Úvod: V rámci odborné literatury neexistuje jednoznačná shoda na všech příčinách potíží se psaním. Česká praxe proto pojímá vývojovou dysgrafii jako narušení v ob-lasti motoriky, některé zahraniční zdroje ji však spojují i s deficity v kognitivním zpracování. Jedna z možných souvisejících dovedností je i vizuální diferenciace. Cílem této práce je zjistit, zdali by test měřící tento rys nedokázal na základě výsledků odli-šit děti s vývojovou dysgrafií od dětí intaktních. Metody: Výzkumný soubor zahrnuje 271 žáků třetích a čtvrtých tříd, u kterých byly sbírány výsledky v subtestu vizuální diferenciace (BACH). Položkovou analýzou byly podrobněji zkoumány psychome-trické vlastnosti testu vzhledem k populaci dětí s vývojovou dysgrafií. Výsledky: Děti s vývojovou dysgrafií dosahovaly nižšího průměrného skóru (M = 54; SD = 10,50) než děti intaktní (M = 58; SD = 6,14). Zároveň děti s vývojovou dysgrafií dosahovaly prů-měrně nižšího množství času potřebného k řešení testu (M = 277; SD = 85,83) než děti intaktní (M = 306,5; SD = 81,09). Statisticky významný (p < 0,001) rozdíl mezi skupinami se rovněž projevil u všech jednotlivých kategorií položek kromě položek negativních. Tyto zjištění byly podpořeny korelací (r = -0,325; p < 0,001) mezi celko-vým skórem a příslušnosti ke skupině. Z jednotlivých položek nejsilnější vztah k proměnné skupiny vykázaly položky s rozdílem v detailu (r = -0,373; p < 0,001) a položky s rozdílem v pravolevém přetočení znaku (r = -0,278; p < 0,001). Diskuze: Jednou z možností je interpretovat výsledky jako důkaz pro existenci vztahu mezi deficitem v dovednosti vizuální diferenciace a vývojovou dysgrafií. Nicméně po uvážení byla navržena alternativní hypotéza o přítomnosti intervenující proměnné, která mohla zkreslit výsledky. Pro budoucí výzkum bylo navrženo se podrobněji zabývat touto možností.

Abstract:

Introduction: Within the literature, there is no clear consensus on the definition of developmental dysgraphia. Sometimes it is conceptualized as a disruption in motor skills (Czech approach), while other times it is associated with deficits in cognitive processing. One of the possible related skills may be visual differentiation. The aim of this study is to determine whether a test measuring this trait could differentiate children with developmental dysgraphia from typically developing children. Methods: Results from the visual differentiation test (BACH) were collected from 271 third and fourthgrade students. Item analysis was used to assess the psychometric properties of the test within the population of children with developmental dysgraphia. Results: Children with developmental dysgraphia achieved a lower mean test score (M = 54; SD = 10.50) than typically developing children (M = 58; SD = 6.14). Children with developmental dysgraphia also completed the test in less time, on average (M = 277; SD = 85.83) compared to typically developing children (M = 306.5; SD = 81.09). A statistically significant difference (p < 0.001) between the groups was also found in all individual item categories except negative items. These findings were supported by a correlation (r = -0.325; p < 0.001) between the total score and group membership. Groups of items with differences in detail (r = -0.373; p < 0.001) and items with differences in right-left rotation of characters (r = -0.278; p < 0.001) show the strongest relationship to group membership. Discussion: One interpretation of the results could be proof of the existing relationship between deficits in visual differentiation and developmental dysgraphia. However, we suggested that the more probable possibility is the existence of another variable that could have affected the results, and the recommendation for future research is to further examine this possibility.
