Noninfectious respiratory diseases of horses

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá neinfekčními nemocemi dýchací soustavy u koní. Konkrétně se jedná o chronickou obstrukční bronchiolitidu (RAO-recurrent airway obstruction), pastevní dušnost (SPAOPD-summer pasture-associated obstructive pulmonary disease), zánětlivé onemocnění dýchacích cest (IAD-inflammatory airway disease) a intrapulmonární krvácení vyvolané zátěží (EIPH-exercise induced pulmonary hemorrhage). Hlavními faktory, které mají vliv na rozvoj těchto chorob, jsou především různé druhy alergenů a nadměrná tréninková zátěž při honbě za co nejlepším výsledkem. K tomu, aby byly tyto choroby správně pochopeny je dobré znát, alespoň základní anatomii a fyziologii dýchací soustavy, které pomohou odhalit případné abnormality u koní. Z toho důvodu jsou hned na počátku práce uvedeny jak základy anatomie, tak i fyziologie dýchací soustavy. Zbylá část práce se zabývá již vybranými druhy neinfekčních onemocnění dýchací soustavy. U každé z nich je uvedená etiologie nemoci zahrnující především příčiny jejího vzniku. Dále pak symptomatologie popisující specifické příznaky. Nezbytnou součástí je i diagnostika, která se zabývá těmi nejpoužívanějšími metodami vyšetření. Jako poslední je u každého onemocnění uvedena i terapie. Ta obsahuje nejen léčbu za pomoci medikamentů, ale i případná preventivní opatření, která velmi úzce souvisí se samotnou léčbou. Velmi často totiž celý problém zvládnou vyřešit. Nejčastěji využívanými medikamenty jsou různé druhy kortikosteroidů nebo bronchodilatátorů. Je však důležité dávat pozor, jelikož takovéto látky mohou být odhaleny při antidopingové kontrole. Je tedy nutné pečlivě je zaznamenávat a konzultovat jejich využití s veterinárním lékařem. V závěru celé práce jsem krátce shrnula všechny čtyři neinfekční onemocnění dýchací soustavy. Také jsem zde uvedla i hlavní rozdíly, které mohou napomoci laické populaci rozlišit běžnou dušnost od pastevní, popřípadě odlišit dušnost od zánětlivého onemocnění dýchacích cest.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis describes noninfectious diseases of the equine respiratory system. These include recurrent airway obstruction (RAO), summer pasture-associated obstructive pulmonary disease (SPAOPD), inflammatory airway disease (IAD), and exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage (EIPH). The main factors that affect the development of these diseases are primarily various allergens and high physical activity to get the best training result. These problems should be properly understood. So it is good to known the basic anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system of horses, which will help to detect possible abnormalities in horses. For this reason, anatomy and physiology are at the beginning of the bachelor thesis. The remaining part of the thesis deals with already selected types of non-infectious diseases of the respiratory system. For each of them is showing the etiology of the disease which includes the causes of its origin. Furthermore, symptomatology describing specific symptoms. An essential part is also diagnostics, which deals with the most used examination methods. The last is a therapy for each disease. It includes not only treatment with using drugs, but also preventive measures which are very closely related to the treatment itself. Very often they manage to solve the whole problem. The most commonly used drugs are various types of corticosteroids or bronchodilators. However, it is important to be careful as such substances, which may be detected during anti-doping controls. It is therefore necessary to carefully record them and consult their use with a veterinarian.At the end of the work, I briefly summarized all four noninfectious diseases of the respiratory system. I also mentioned here the main differences that can help the lay population to distinguish recurrent airway obstruction from summer pasture-associated obstructive pulmonary disease or inflammatory airway disease.
