Characterization of optically active liquids

Abstract:

This work focuses on the characterization of optically active liquids. Solutions of optically active tartaric acid isomers dissolved in dimethylsulfoxide were chosen for experimental purposes. The optical properties of the solutions were measured by spectrophotometry and spectroscopic ellipsometry. From the experimental data, the spectral dependencies of the individual components of the dielectric tensor of the optically active liquids were subsequently determined using recently published dispersion models. We have shown that the model of two optically active harmonic oscillators is sufficient to describe the optical activity in the transparent region.

Abstract:

Táto práca sa zameriava na charakterizáciu opticky aktívnych kvapalín. Pre experimentálne účely boli zvolené roztoky opticky aktívnych izomérov kyseliny vínnej rozpustených v dimetylsulfoxide. Optické vlastnosti roztokov boli namerané pomocou metód spektrofotometrie a spektroskopickej elipsometrie. Z experimentálnych dát boli následne určené spektrálne závislosti jednotlivých zložiek dielektrického tenzora opticky aktívnych kvapalín pomocou nedávno publikovaných disperzných modelov. Ukázali sme, že model dvoch opticky aktívnych harmonických oscilátorov je postačujúci pre popis optickej aktivity v transparentnej oblasti.
