Dark Tourism in Selected European Countries

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá fenoménem temného turismu. Jejím cílem je zhodnocení postavení temného turismu v rámci kulturního turismu ve vybraných evropských státech s přihlédnutím na postavení Evropské unie k dané problematice. Práce nabízí charakteristiku kulturního a temného turismu, identifikuje nejvýznamnější památky temného turismu, které lze ve vybraných zemích nalézt, a klade důraz na osvětlení jejich historického významu. Dále se zabývá působením orgánů Evropské unie v oblasti turismu, jaký mají přístup k odvětví kulturního turismu a v neposlední řadě, jakým způsobem podporují vybrané památky temného turismu.

Abstract:

This master’s thesis deals with dark tourism phenomenon. The main objective is to assess the status of dark tourism within cultural tourism in selected European countries. The thesis focuses also on the dark tourism’s standing among European Union institutions.Presented dissertation offers characteristics of cultural and dark tourism, it identifies the most significant attractions of dark tourism which can be found in selected countries and emphasis their historical importance. It also addresses the interaction between EU institutions and tourism industry. Not only it shows politics dealing with tourism but it is specifically concerned about cultural tourism and possibilities of support given to dark tourism attractions.
