Current trends in cytotoxicity assessment of nanoparticles

Abstract:

Se zvyšujícím se množstvím aplikací nanočástic se zvedá zájem o toxikologické studie, které by poukázaly na možnou škodlivost nanočástic vůči buněčným strukturám. Základní fyzikálně-chemické vlastnosti nanočástic nám pomáhají porozumět mechanismu jejich cytotoxicity. Nanomateriály jsou výrazně odlišné od objemových materiálů v mnoha parametrech. Samotný toxický účinek se pak u dílčích skupin nanočástic liší, proto práce zahrnuje například uhlíkové, kovové nanočástice nebo také kvantové tečky. U těchto struktur se používá několik zavedených metod detekce jejich cytotoxických účinků, mezi které patří in vitro a in vivo testy. V těchto metodách se zkoumají klíčové markery cytotoxicity, jako je například apoptóza buněk nebo buněčná proliferace. Studie cytotoxicity nám napomáhají objasnit míru škodlivosti těchto nanočástic. Výsledky těchto studií mohou do budoucna napovědět, které nanočástice jsou bezpečné pro použití v oblasti biomedicíny.

Abstract:

With the increasing number of applications of nanoparticles, there is a growing interest in toxicological studies that would highlight the potential harmfulness of nanoparticles towards cellular structures. Basic physicochemical properties of nanoparticles help us understand the mechanism of cytotoxicity of these particles. Nanomaterials differ significantly from bulk materials in many factors. Their toxic effect differs for different groups of nanoparticles, so the work includes, for example, carbon nanoparticles, metal nanoparticles, or quantum dots. For these structures, several established methods are used to detect their cytotoxic effects, including in vitro and in vivo teststests. These methods examine key markers of cytotoxicity such as apoptosis or cell proliferation. Cytotoxicity studies help us to clarify the extent of the harmfulness of these nanoparticles. The results of these studies may give us clues in the future as to which nanoparticles are safe for use in biomedical applications.
