Cílem práce je analyzovat pojetí pekla a ráje v románu La vorágine (1924) kolumbijského spisovatele José Eustasia Rivery. Práce také pojednává o různém pojetí pekla a ráje v západní a latinskoamerické literatuře a v závěru porovnává shledané podobnosti a rozdíly pojetí těchto dvou opačných světů s jejich pojetím v románu Rivery.
