Psilocybin in the treatment of anxiety symptomatology

Abstract:

Tématem této bakalářské práce je psilocybin v léčbě úzkostné symptomatologie. Cílem prá-ce bylo zjistit současný stav výzkumu vlivu psilocybinu na úzkost a shrnout dosavadní po-znatky. Byla provedena přehledová studie literatury, v níž byly analyzovány relevantní studie publikované v posledních 23 letech. Výsledky ukazují, že psilocybin může být efek-tivní v léčbě úzkosti u různých populací, včetně pacientů s rakovinou, depresí a úzkostnými poruchami. Nicméně, existují určité limity těchto studií, jako jsou malý počet účastníků, krátkodobé sledování a nedostatek standardizovaných protokolů. Z tohoto důvodu jsou potřebné další výzkumy s větším počtem účastníků, delším sledováním a standardizova-nými protokoly, aby bylo možné lépe pochopit účinnost a bezpečnost psilocybinu v léčbě úzkosti. Přestože jsou potřebné další výzkumy, výsledky této přehledové studie naznačují, že psilocybin může být nadějnou alternativou k současným léčebným přístupům u pacientů trpících úzkostí.

Abstract:

The topic of this bachelor thesis is psilocybin in the treatment of anxiety symptomatology. The aim of the work was to determine the current state of research into the effect of psilo-cybin on anxiety and to summarize the findings so far. A literature review was conducted in which relevant studies published in the last 23 years were analyzed. The results show that psilocybin may be effective in treating anxiety in a variety of populations, including patients with cancer, depression, and anxiety disorders. However, there are some limita-tions of these studies, such as small number of participants, short-term follow-up and lack of standardized protocols. For this reason, further research with larger numbers of partici-pants, longer follow-up and standardized protocols is needed to better understand the effi-cacy and safety of psilocybin in the treatment of anxiety. Although more research is need-ed, the results of this review study suggest that psilocybin may be a promising alternative to current treatment approaches for patients suffering from anxiety.
