The evaluation of a burden of family members caring for the elderly with stroke

Abstract:

Cílem kvantitativního šetření bylo zjistit míru zátěže neformálních pečujících o seniora s cévní mozkovou příhodou. Byly hodnoceny vztahy mezi mírou zátěže a sociodemografickými aspekty (věk a pohlaví pečovatele, rodinný vztah pečovatele, délka poskytované péče a soužití ve společné domácnosti). Metoda: Výzkum byl sestaven jako kvantitativní šetření. Data kvantitativního šetření byla sbírána pomocí standardizovaného dotazníku The Zarit Burden interview- modifikovaný E Topinkovou jako Test hodnocení pečovatelské zátěže pro rodinné pečující a dotazníku syndromu vyhoření - Burnout Measure (dále BM dotazníku) psychického vyhoření od Pinesové a Aronsona. Výsledky: Soubor zkoumaných pečovatelů tvořilo celkem 104 respondentů (78 žen, 28 mužů) mezi nimiž byla nejpočetnější věková kategorie 45-60 let. Nejvíce pečovatelů poskytovalo péči od jednoho do pěti let. Vysoká zátěž při poskytování ošetřovatelské péče byla zjištěna u 7 % rodinných příslušníků, 27 % respondentů mělo syndrom vyhoření, a u 9 % byl výsledek kritický. Závěr: Výsledky výzkumu poukazují na zvýšenou míru psychické zátěže v péči o seniora s cévní mozkovou příhodou v domácím prostředí. Dle statistického zpracování dat Zaritovy škály zátěže jsme předpokládali, že rodinní příslušníci budou vykazovat daleko vyšší zátěž. The Zarit Burden Interview patří celosvětově k nejpoužívanějším nástrojům měření zátěže rodinných příslušníků všude ve světě. Hodnotí nejen osobu, o kterou je pečováno, ale také zdravotní a psychický stav pečovatele, jeho společenský život a finanční situaci. Nástrojem mohou být zmapovány oblasti, které jsou pro pečujícího náročné a mohou způsobovat selhání v roli pečovatele či jeho vyhoření.

Abstract:

Aims: The study was conducted to find out the degree of the burden experienced by informal caregivers for an elderly person after a stroke. The relations between the degree of the care burden and socio-demographic aspects, such as the age and gender of caregivers, their family relationships, length of provided care and cohabiting household matters, were evaluated. Methodology: Survey research used quantitative research strategies. Quantitative survey data were collected using a set of standardized questionnaires: the Zarit Burden Interview Scale (modified by E. Topinková as a Care Burden Assessment Test for Family Caregivers) and Burnout Measure of Pines and Aronson. Results: The sample of the study was consisted of 104 caregivers (78 females and 28 males). Adults between the ages 45 - 60 are over-represented in the survey sample. Most family caregivers have been providing care for one to five years. A high degree of care burden was detected in 7 % family caregivers, 28 % of respondents had burnout syndrome and critical results occurred in 9 % of respondents. Conclusion: Research results suggest that stroke caregivers are associated with high levels of psychological strain. The use of Zarit Burden Interview has also provide that there are increasing pressures on families to provide care. The Zarit Burden Interview has emerged as the most widely utilized burden measure. It evaluates not only the person being cared for, but also the caregiver and his status. The assessment tool can be also used to map caregiving stress which could potentially cause a caregiver failure or burnout.
