Abstract:

In this thesis I outline the development and evolution of mass non-European immigration into selected EU member-states. I analyze in depth the effects it has and it might have on their culture, society and economy. The reasons behind these are numerous and my goal is to describe and evaluate them. I point out to economic factors; the role colonialism has played, as well as the moral aspects that have led to immigrants coming to Europe’s most advanced member states. I examine integration as a prerogative for successful outcome of immigration. I pay attention to the legal, institutional and social elements of the process of immigration.
