Boundary gemination – one of the Finnish sandhi phenomenon from the perspective of non-linguist language users

Abstract:

This thesis deals with one of the Finnish sandhi phenomenon - boundary gemination (rajageminaatio), when in the speech of native speakers can be under certain circumstances next word's first consonant doubled. Main part of this thesis is the research, which aim was to map non-linguist language users' opinions and attitudes towards this phenomenon. There is included also the comparision with the attitudes of those, who have been - to some extent - studied Finnish. According to the sources, boundary gemination is described in detail also from the theoretical perspective.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce pojednává o jednom z finských sandhiových jevů - hraniční geminaci (rajageminaatio), kdy může po určitých tvarech v řeči rodilých mluvčích dojít ke zdvojení počáteční souhlásky následujícího slova. Stěžejní součástí práce je výzkum, jehož cílem bylo zmapovat obecné představy a postoje běžných uživatelů jazyka (nelingvistů) o tomto jevu. Práce nabízí také srovnání jejich výsledků se skupinou mluvčích, kteří finštinu do určité míry studovali. Součástí práce je také podrobné teoretické vymezení tohoto jevu na základě odborné literatury.
