The use of elements of acral coactivation therapy in the physiotherapy of the elderly

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na využití prvků akrální koaktivační terapie ve fyzioterapii seniorů. Práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou a praktickou. V části teoretické je popsána klasifikace staří, nejčastější potíže seniorů a co by měl senior dělat v rámci zdravého stárnutí. V následující kapitole je zahrnuta podstata, principy a cíle akrální koaktivační terapie. Cílem výzkumné práce bylo zjistit, zda se u seniorů po třech měsících každodenního cvičení akrální koaktivační terapie zlepší jejich funkční tělesná zdatnost. Pro výzkumné šetření vedené formou kazuistik bylo vybráno pět probandek. Na začátku výzkumného šetření probandky poskytly údaje o svých potíží a provedly Senior Fitness Test, který hodnotí sílu, aerobní vytrvalost, flexibilitu a obratnost. Probandky měly za úkol cvičit zadané cviky třikrát za den, kdy po čtrnácti dnech byla vždy provedena jejich kontrola a přidána nová poloha vzpěru. Na konci výzkumného šetření byly znovu položeny stejné otázky ohledně potíží a proveden Senior Fitness Test. Výsledky ukázaly, že došlo ke zvýšení svalové síly i zlepšení vytrvalostní složky, udržení či zlepšení flexibility a obratnosti u všech pozorovaných probandek. Bolest hodnocená pomocí VAS škály byla minimálně o jeden stupeň snížena u čtyř z pěti pozorovaných probandek. Pouze u jedné probandky se bolest zvýšila, to však nebylo přisouzeno k metodě ACT. Lze tedy říct, že metoda akrální koaktivační terapie napomáhá ke zlepšení funkční tělesné zdatnosti a k ústupu zdravotních problémů seniorů.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the application of acral coactivation therapy elements in physiotherapy for seniors. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. Theoretical part describes the classification of aging, the most common condition problems faced by seniors, and contains instruction on what should seniors do for healthy aging. The following chapter covers the essence, principles, and goals of acral coactivation therapy. The main objective of the practical part was to determine whether seniors' functional physical fitness would improve after three months of daily exercise of acral coactivation therapy. Five subjects were selected for this research, conducted in the form of a case study. At the beginning of the research, the participants provided data on their problems and performed the Senior Fitness Test, which evaluates strength, aerobic endurance, flexibility, and agility. The participants were tasked with performing prescribed exercises three times a day, and after every fourteen days, survey of their progress was conducted, and a new upright position was included to their excercise. At the end of the research, the same questions regarding the problems were asked again, and the Senior Fitness Test was performed. The results showed an increase in muscle strength, improvement in endurance, and enhancement of flexibility and agility in all observed participants. Only with one participant, the pain increased, but it was not attributed to the ACT method. Therefore, it can be said that acral coactivation therapy contributes to improving functional physical fitness and alleviating health problems among seniors.
