Quality and standard of education of warfarin treated patients

Abstract:

Antikoagulační léčba je léčba na velkém vzestupu. Jeden z hlavních důvodů je stárnutí populace a zdravotní komplikace vyššího věku. Nejčastější užívaný lék warfarin je nepřímé antikoagulans, které se používá při dlouhodobé léčbě a profylaxi trombózy vzhledem k jeho výbornému biologickému poločasu a stabilnímu léčebnému účinku. Trombóza představuje základní patogenetický mechanismus řady závažných onemocnění. U mnoha dalších onemocnění je trombóza obávanou komplikací. Proto její prevence a léčba dokáže zkvalitnit život mnoha pacientů. Na druhé straně, zejména při špatném dávkování antikoagulancii, může být život pacienta ohrožen. Z těchto důvodů je při podávání warfarinu nutné pečlivě dodržovat indikace, intervaly sledování a doporučené léčebné rozmezí. Proto je velmi důležitá edukace pacienta, který má znát základní problematiku a komplikace při léčbě warfarinem. Práce je zaměřena na problematiku antikoagulační léčby, úroveň znalostí pacienta o léčbě warfarinem a kvalitu edukace ze strany zdravotnických pracovníků.

Abstract:

The use of anticoagulation treatment is on the high uprise. Some of the main reasons are aging of the population and also health complications of those in higher age. The most often used medicament is warfarin, indirect anticoagulant, which is used during long term medical treatment and in the prevention of thrombosis, thanks to its very good biological dissolution and stable therapeutic effect. Thrombosis represents basic pathogenic mechanism of a number of serious illnesses and it is also very serious complication along many other diseases. Therefore its prevention and medication can improve the quality of many patients´ lives. On the other hand, it could jeopardise patient´s life, especially during incorrect anticoagulants dosage. These reasons lead to necessity of precise following of indication, periods of monitoring and recommended remedial intervals. Consequently it is very important to educate the patient, who should know the basic facts and complications during warfarin treatment. This dissertation is focused on the issue of anticoagulation treatment, standard of patient´s knowledge of warfarin treatment and quality of education provided to warfarin user by medical staff. standard of patient´s knowledge of warfarin treatment and quality of education provided to warfarin user by medical staff.
