Social impacts of permanent changes in health status.

Abstract:

Práce se zaměří na problematiku náhlé, získané změny zdravotního stavu (k horšímu) a z ní vyplývající sociální dopady. Autor zjišťuje, jaké změny čekají nejen postiženého, ale i jeho rodinu. Vychází z předpokladu, že vlivem náhlého zhoršení fyzického nebo duševního zdravotního stavu jedince se změní i jeho sociální fungování a ekonomická situace. Pro posouzení subjektivně vnímané kvality života je použit kvalitativní výzkum, hlavním zdrojem dat jsou rozhovory s tělesně postiženými lidmi. Pomocí analýzy a to jak rozhovorů, tak související literatury, je zkoumána problematika změn v sociálních rolích a adaptace na situaci po prodělaném úraze s trvalými následky. Výsledkem je zjištění, že následkem tělesného postižení se subjektivně vnímaná kvalita života nemusí v konečném výsledku zásadně změnit, nicméně je poukazováno na nutnost pomoci pečující rodině a na důležitost sociálních služeb a to pro postižené i jejich rodiny.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the issues related to sudden changes in health (for the worse), and the resulting social impact. The author investigates what types of changes await not only the disabled individual, but his/her family as well. The work is based on the assumption that the sudden worsening of physical or mental health of an individual influences changes in his/her social functioning and financial status. For this study, qualitative research was utilised to assess subjective quality of life, with its primary data source consisting of interviews with physically disabled people. Through analysis of both the interviews and related literature, the issues involved in changes in social roles and situation adaptation after suffering an injury with permanent effects were examined. The findings have revealed that a result of physical disability may not change fundamentally a subjectively perceived quality of life, however, they also highlighted the need to provide the caregiving family with help, as well as the importance of social services for both the disabled and their families.
