Development of English textbooks of the Headway - Intermediate series with a focus on the development of reading skills at the B1 level

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vývojem učebnic angličtiny řady Headway - Intermediate se zaměřením na rozvoj řečové dovednosti čtení na úrovni B1. Práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou, která čerpá z několika odborných publikací, a část praktickou. Teoretický pohled definuje učebnice a jejich funkce, soustředí se také na jejich používání a výběr, který může být při nepřeberném množství současné nabídky učebnic celkem obtížný. Závěrem popisuje metody zkoumání učebnic, protože právě zkoumání jedné řady učebnic je předmětem této práce. Práce se ale týká také rozvoje řečové dovednosti čtení. Teoretická část proto obsahuje také kapitolu čtení, v níž je čtení popsáno společně s vyjmenováním jeho typů. Další části tvoří strategie čtení a druhy čtení. Praktická část pak na základě stanovených kritérií porovnává jednotlivé řady a jejich lekce učebnice Headway - Intermediate, respektive jejich část zaměřenou na rozvoj čtení. Závěr shrnuje výsledky srovnání.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis deals with the development of English textbooks of the Headway - Intermediate series with a focus on the development of reading skills at the B1 level.The work is divided into a theoretical part, which draws from several professional publications, and a practical part.The theoretical view defines textbooks and their functions; it also focuses on their use and the process of selecting them, which can be quite difficult given the inexhaustible amount of current offerings of coursebooks. Finally, it describes the evaluating methods, since the evaluation of development of one series of a coursebook series is the subject of this work. However, the work also concerns the development of reading skills. The theoretical part therefore also contains a chapter on reading, in which reading is described together with the description of its types. The following parts deal with reading strategies and reading techniques. The practical part then compares the individual series and their lessons of the coursebook Headway - Intermediate, or their part focused on the development of reading, based on the established criteria. The conclusion summarizes the results of the comparison.
