Human Motion Query via Microsoft Kinect

Abstract:

Similarity search based systems, which provide searching for content-similar objects, suffer from the common deficiency - the user has to find an appropriate sample which he wants to search for. This kind of issue may be found in the similarity search over a set of human motion data. The aim of this thesis was to design and implement the application of creating human motion samples from Microsoft Kinect. Using this device may also cause some errors while capturing motion sequences. This is the reason why one of the main parts of this thesis was to use and implement chosen convolution filter. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the definitions of motion capture data, specification of Microsoft Kinect together with Kinect SDK. This knowledge is used in the implementation part of the thesis in which I have created two applications, one for capturing the motion via Microsoft Kinect and the other one for motion data processing with the use of Kalman filter to estimate and suppress the errors captured during the recording of the motion sequences.

Abstract:

Systémy založené na podobnostnom vyhľadávaní, ktoré vyhľadávajú obsahovo podobné objekty, trpia spoločným nedostatkom - užívateľ musí nájsť vhodný vzor, ktorý chce hľadať. Tento problém sa takisto vyskytuje vo vyhľadávaní nad pohybovými dátami človeka. Hlavným účelom tejto práce bolo navrhnúť a implementovať vhodný nástroj na vytváranie pohybových vzorov pomocou zariadenia Microsoft Kinect. S využitím tohto zariadenia je spojené vytváranie chýb a odchýlok počas nahrávania pohybových sekvencií, preto jednou z hlavných častí tejto práce je využitie zvoleného konvolučného filtra pre potlačenie a vyhladenie týchto chýb. V teoretickej časti rozoberám problematiku pohybových dát, zariadenie Microsoft Kinect spolu s Kinect SDK. Tento základ je prakticky využitý v implementačnej časti práce, v ktorej som vytvoril dve aplikácie, prvú na snímanie pohybu pomocou Microsoft Kinect a druhú na spracovanie nasnímaných dát s využitím Kalmanovho filtra.
