The Unchanged Representation of Native Americans in Fashion
Abstract:
Tato bakalářská práce si klade za cíl demonstrovat, jak móda zneužívá původní Američany a jejich kulturu. Práce se soustředí na zneužití oděvů původních Američanů, přivlastnění si jejich vzorů a tisků ve vybraných designerských řadách a stereotypní zastoupení původních Američanů, a to krvežíznivého a stoického divocha, indiánské ženy a princezny.
Abstract:
The aim of this Bachelor’s Thesis is to demonstrate the misappropriation of Native Americans and their cultures in fashion. The thesis focuses on misuse of Native American regalia, misappropriation of Native-inspired prints and patterns used in selected designer lines, and on stereotypical representations of Native Americans, namely bloodthirsty and stoic savage, and Indian princess and squaw.
