Christian Democratic Parties in the Czech Republic and in Germany: Programmatic and Ideological Comparsion of the CDU and the KDU-CSL

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na analýzu a komparaci křesťanskodemokratické strany Německa a České republiky, CDU a KDU-ČSL, na základě teorie stranických rodin Petera Maira a Case Muddeho. Tato teorie obsahuje čtyři kritéria pro zařazení politických stran do stranických rodin: původ, nadnárodní vazby, politika a ideologie a jméno strany. Hlavním cílem práce je posoudit, jak CDU a KDU-ČSL v rámci uvedených kritérií naplňují charakteristiky křesťanskodemokratické stranické rodiny a čím se od sebe navzájem liší. V práci jsou analyzovány a komparovány okolnosti vzniku CDU a KDU-ČSL, jejich programová a ideová východiska, základní hodnoty a cíle, volební programy, postoje k evropské integraci a jejich členství v nadnárodních institucích. V závěru práce shledává, že CDU i KDU-ČSL v rámci všech čtyř uvedených kritérií odpovídají charakteristice křesťanskodemokratické stranické rodiny, a nastiňuje dílčí rozdíly mezi těmito stranami.

Abstract:

The Bachelor thesis is focused on an analysis and comparison of Christian democratic parties in Germany and in the Czech Republic, the CDU and the KDU-CSL, based on the theory of party families of Cas Mudde and Peter Mair. The theory includes four criteria for classification of political parties into party families: origins, transnational links, policy and ideology, and party name. The main goal of the Thesis is to assess how the CDU and the KDU-CSL fulfil characteristics of the Christian democratic family and also how these parties differ from each other within these criteria. The Thesis analyzes and compares circumstances of establishment of the CDU and the KDU-CSL, their programmatic and ideological bases, basic values and goals, election programs, attitudes to the European integration and memberships in transnational institutions. In the conclusion the Thesis finds, that both the CDU and the KDU-CSL conform to the characteristics of the Christian Democracy within all four classification criteria, and presents partial differences between these parties.
