Equal opportunities on the labour market from the women point of view

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je odpovědět na otázku, jak ženy reflektují své postavení na trhu práce z hlediska rovných příležitostí. V teoretické části práce jsem vymezila koncept rovných příležitostí a charakteristiky postavení žen na trhu práce, které je staví do znevýhodněné pozice oproti mužům. Jedná se o působení genderových stereotypů, existenci genderové segmentace na pracovním trhu, nerovnost v přístupu k zaměstnání, v možnostech pracovního postupu a účasti ve vedení a v odměňování, větší zatížení rodinnými povinnosti a tedy vyšší míra konfliktu rodinných a pracovních povinností. Zabývala jsem se také opatřeními harmonizace práce s rodiny, protože ty mají podstatný vliv na možnosti participace žen na trhu práce. Prostřednictvím rozhovorů se ženami jsem zjišťovala, jak reflektují svou pozici na pracovním trhu, jak hodnotí možnosti harmonizace práce a rodiny a jaké strategie chování ve vztahu k rodině a zaměstnání volí. Ženy mohou své postavení na trhu práce vnímat velmi diferencovaně a také na něj rozdílně reagovat. Pro pochopení a vysvětlení názorů a chování žen ve vztahu k zaměstnání a rodině jsem využila teorii racionální volby, preferenční teorii a kulturní teorii.

Abstract:

The aim of my thesis is to answer how women perceive their situation on the labour market in term of equal opportunities. In the teoretical part of the thesis I defined the concept of equal opportunities and characteristics of the situation of women on the labout market, which put them into an inequal position in comparison with men. Gender stereotypes, gender segmentation of labour market, inequality in acces to the employment, inequality in the promotion possibilities and in the participation in the management, inequality in renumeration, larger charge of domestic responsibilities and thus larger extent of the family and work responsibilities conflict is concerned. I also dealed with arrangements of harmonisation of work and family, because they considerably influence possibilities of women participation on the labour market. Through interviews with women I finded out how they perceive their situation on the labour market, how they evaluate possibilities of harmonization of work and family and which behavior strategies they choose in relation to family and work. Women can perceive their situation very differently and also differently react to it. To understand and to explain the opinions and behavior of women in relation to labour market and family I used rational choice theory, preferential theory and cultural theory.
