Body satisfaction and selfesteem among University female students in relation to their partners satisfaction with the students bodies

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá vztahem mezi sebehodnocením u vysokoškolských studentek a spokojeností s tělem na straně VŠ studentek a jejich partnerů. Cílem práce bylo zjistit, do jaké míry souvisí sebehodnocení se spokojeností vysokoškolských studentek s jejich vlastním tělem a současně se spokojeností mužů s tělem jejich partnerek. Výzkumu se účastnilo 95 studentek Fakulty sociálních studií a Filozofické fakulty Masarykovy Univerzity a 95 jejich partnerů (95 partnerských dvojic). Sebehodnocení respondentek bylo zjišťováno pomocí Rosenbergovy škály sebehodnocení, spokojenost s tělem byla zjišťována pomocí Stunkardova testu siluet. Středně silný vztah sebehodnocení a spokojenosti s tělem se potvrdil, ale souvislost sebehodnocení a partnerovy spokojenosti s tělem partnerky nebyla nalezena. Další výsledky indikují, že sebehodnocení souvisí ve větší míře s vlastní spokojeností studentek s tělem, než s domnělou spokojeností partnerů s jejich tělem a se skutečnou spokojeností partnerů s jejich tělem.

Abstract:

This work deals with relationship between self-esteem among female students and body satisfaction among female students and their romantic partners. The aim of this study was to find out how much is self-esteem connected with body satisfaction among female students, and also with men´s satisfation with their girlfriends bodies. The research was realized on the sample of 95 university female students and of 95 their romantic partners. Woman´s self-esteem was measured by Rosenberg self-esteem scale, body satisfaction was measured by The Stunkard silhouette test. The moderate relationship was found between self-esteem and student´s body satisfaction but there was no relationship between female students self-esteem and their romantic partners satisfaction with their bodies. Further, finding suggested that there is stronger relationship between own body satisfaction and self-esteem than between women´s self-esteem and their perceptions of their partner´s satisfaction with their bodies, and their partner´s actual satisfaction with their bodies.
