The exile and the stories of identity in the African francophone literature: Daniel Biyaoula and Alain Mabanckou

Abstract:

The Thesis deals with the historical development of the African francophone literature in view of its identity aspects and its attitude to the French culture and language. The Thesis concentrates on the contemporary generation of the African exiled authors „Afrique sur Seine“, it defines the exile as the „starter of the troubled identity“ and it delimitates theoretically the problems concerning the identity transformations of the subject. In the analytical part the Thesis pays attention to the novels L´Impasse (1996) and Agonies (1998) by Daniel Biyaoula and Bleu-Blanc-Rouge (1998) by Alain Mabanckou. The Thesis studies the texts from the perspective of the figures, narrator, space, time, composition and language. The work deals with the factors which cause the „troubled identity“ of the exile, whether it is revealed gradually in the transformations of the „identity components“ of the protagonist, or in the mosaic of the static „identity types“.

Abstract:

Práce sleduje historický vývoj africké frankofonní literatury s ohledem na její identitární aspekty a postoj k francouzské kultuře a jazyku. Soustřeďuje se na současnou generaci afrických exilových autorů „Afrique sur Seine“, definuje exil jako „spouštěč problematické identity“ a teoreticky vymezuje problematiku identitárních proměn subjektu. V analytické části věnuje pozornost románům L´Impasse (1996) a Agonies (1998) Daniela Biyaouly a Bleu-Blanc-Rouge (1998) Alaina Mabanckoua. Texty zkoumá z perspektivy postav, vypravěče, času, prostoru, kompozice a jazyka. Práce sleduje faktory vyvolávající problematickou identitu exulanta, ať už odhalovanou postupně v proměnách „identitárních složek“ protagonisty, nebo v mozaice statických „identitárních typů“.
