The process of integration and assimilation of Syrian immigrants in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá procesem začlenění syrských imigrantů do české společnosti. Teoretická část práce se zaměřuje na definici základních pojmů souvisejících s migrací, kulturou, identitou a mezinárodní ochranou. Dále se věnuje vysvětlení integrační politiky státu a kulturních odlišností mezi Sýrií a Českou republikou. V praktické části této práce je použit kvalitativní přístup ve formě polostrukturovaných rozhovorů se syrskými imigranty žijícími v České republice. Výstupy z těchto rozhovorů jsou následně interpretovány s důrazem na zkušenosti respondentů v procesu akulturace v české společnosti. Z výsledků výzkumu je patrné, že většina respondentů se úspěšně začlenila, avšak jeden z nich vykazoval tendenci k separaci.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the process of integration of Syrian immigrants into Czech society. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the definition of basic concepts related to migration, culture, identity and international protection. It also explains the integration policy of the state and the cultural differences between Syria and the Czech Republic. The empirical part of this thesis uses a qualitative approach in the form of semi-structured interviews with Syrian immigrants living in the Czech Republic. The findings from these interviews are then interpreted with an emphasis on the respondents' experiences in the process of acculturation in Czech society. The results show that most of the respondents have successfully integrated, but one of them showed a tendency towards separation.
