Minerals of cordierite group from granitic pegmatites of the Bory granulite massif

Abstract:

Předložená práce se zabývá paragenetickým postavením a chemickým složením minerálů skupiny cordieritu (CGM) v granitických pegmatitech borského granulitového masivu. Ke studiu byly vybrány dobře diferencované, symetricky zonální pegmatitové žíly typické pro oblast Hatí u Dolních Borů. Výskyt CGM je vázán na všechny jednotky pegmatitů – okrajovou, grafickou, blokovou a albitovou; přítomnost CGM ve starších jednotkách dokazuje krystalizaci CGM přímo z taveniny již v raných fázích krystalizace. Na pegmatitových žilách s významným zastoupením turmalínu (žíla č. 5) CGM nebyly zjištěny. CGM jsou dále ve zdejších pegmatitech často doprovázeny asociací ilmenit + monazit + xenotim. V případě, kdy B není přítomen v tavenině v dostatečném množství a nevzniká turmalín, tvoří Ti a REE vlastní minerály. CGM ve většině případů zcela podlehly několika fázím alterace, vhodné k analýzám byly pouze vzorky ze žil č. 3, 4, Oldřich a nově objevené žíly Krásněves. Chemické složení CGM bylo zjišťováno pomocí EMP, obsahy stopových prvků pomocí LA-ICP-MS. Z chemického složení vyplývá, že homovalentní substituce Fe↔Mg je dominantní, ve více frakcionovaných jednotkách Fe výrazně převládá. Fe↔Mn (příp. Mg↔Mn) je nevýrazná i u nejvíce frakcionovaných CGM a ukazuje na celkově Mn-chudé prostředí. Z negativní korelace Na versus ΣFe+Mg+Mn se dá odvodit, že je vstup Li do struktury řízen substitucí Na+ + Li+ = □ + R2+. Zajímavostí jsou vysoké obsahy Li (≤2243 ppm) oproti nízkým obsahům Be (≤50 ppm) u všech studovaných vzorků, což se liší od ostatních pegmatitů, kde většinou Be převládá nad Li.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on paragenetic position and chemical composition of cordierite-group minerals (CGM; cordierite, sekaninaite) from granitic pegmatites of the Bory granulite massif. Diferenciated, symmetrically zoned dykes, up to 30 m thick and 0,5 km long were examined. CGM are present in all textural-paragenetic units (from margin to the centre: granitic, graphic, blocky, albite) in these pegmatite dykes. Presence of CGM in the granitic unit suggest that CGM are one of the earliest accessory minerals and that they crystallized directly from granitic melt. Due to low concentration of B at the dyke no. 4 CGM crystallized instead of tourmaline in contrast with the dyke no. 5 where the tourmaline is quite common and CGM absent. CGM are commonly associated with the assemblage ilmenite + monazite + xenotime which was not found on the dyke no. 5. Ti and REE are more compatible with tourmaline than with CGM consequently in B-poor melts these elements form their own minerals. Low resistance of CGM to alterations is the main problem and only small part of samples was suitable for EMP and LA-ICP-MS study. Homovalent substitution Fe↔Mg is dominant and Fe is higher in more fractionated CGM. Substitution Fe↔Mn (Mg↔Mn) is insignificant even in the most fractionated Fe-rich CGM; pegmatite dykes are Mn-poor. Negative correlation of Na versus ΣFe+Mg+Mn suggest heterovalent substitution Na+ + Li+ = □ + R2+, where Li+ enters octahedral position instead of Fe2+, Mg2+ or Mn2+ and charge is stabilized by entrance of Na+ into the channel position. CGM in pegmatites from the Bory granulite massif typically have high contents of Fe and Li (≤2243 ppm), but low Mn and Be (≤50 ppm).
