The title of doctoral thesis: Characters of visual artists in German-Moravian literature. The purpose of this exposé is to present selected works by German-Moravian writers, to analyze the characters of visual artists appearing in their texts in the context of the respective work, to present their artistic and personal development throughout history and where possible to compare them with each other. The literary analysis would include these authors and works: Jakob Julius David: The Hanna. Stories. (1904) Peter Härtling: Dearest Fenchel!: The Life of Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn in Etudes and Intermezzi (2013) Erica Pedretti: Closest Home (1995) Saint Sebastian (1973) Valerie or The Unmannered Eye (1986) Franz Spunda: Giorgione's love song, novel of an artist's life (1955) Ilse Tielsch: Strange Beach, Story (1984)

Abstract:

The presented work has set itself the task of presenting selected works by German-Moravian writers, analyzing the figures of painters appearing in their texts in the context of the respective work, presenting their artistic and personal development in the course of history and, where possible, comparing them with each other. The literary analysis of the artistic figures involves authors Jakob Julius David, Franz Spunda, Peter Härtling and Erica Pedretti, who spent their childhood in Moravia. The analysis of the works of writers related to German-Moravian literature, who share a common language, space and theme, makes it possible to compare the respective artistic figures and concepts of art, using literary theories and methods (Manfred Pfister, Ralf Klausnitzer) to give the study a structure. The conception and representation of art are primarily described in the context of the respective work, and the points of contact and differences between the authors analyzed are then addressed. The aim of the work is to understand the art of the analyzed painter figures and to determine the role of art in their lives, their professional development and what effects it has socially on the artists' environment. Special attention is also paid to the peculiar structure of the text and the choice of linguistic devices in the analysed works. The next part of the thesis examines how and by what means (preserved documents, diaries, press articles, etc.) the authors managed to empathise with the artists' characters in order to achieve a compact and integrated impression of the literary personalities. Each chapter also contains informative sections on the life and work of both the painterly figures under study and the authors of the literary works analysed.

Abstract:

Die vorliegende Dissertationsarbeit machte sich zur Aufgabe, ausgewählte Werke der deutsch-mährischen Schriftsteller zu präsentieren, die in ihren Texten auftretenden Figuren der bildenden Künstler im Kontext des jeweiligen Werkes zu analysieren, ihre künstlerische und persönliche Entwicklung im Laufe der Geschichte darzustellen und wo es möglich wird, sie miteinander zu vergleichen. Die literarische Analyse der Künstlerfiguren bezieht sich auf Figuren aus den Federn von Autoren wie Jakob Julius David, Franz Spunda, Peter Härtling und Erica Pedretti, die ihre Kindheit (oder Teile davon) in Mähren verbrachten. Die Analyse der Werke der in Beziehung zur deutschmährischen Literatur stehenden Schriftsteller, die eine gemeinsame Sprache, Raum und Thema verbindet, ermöglicht den Vergleich der jeweiligen Künstlerfiguren und Kunstkonzeptionen, wobei literarische Theorien und Methoden (Manfred Pfister, Ralf Klausnitzer) verwendet werden, die die analytische Herangehensweise an die Texte bestimmen. Die Kunstauffassung und Kunstdarstellung werden primär im Kontext des jeweiligen Werkes beschrieben und darauf aufbauend wird auf die Berührungspunkte und Differenzen zwischen den analysierten Autoren eingegangen. Das Ziel der Arbeit ist die Kunstaffassung der analysierten Malerfiguren und die Festellung der Rolle der Kunst in ihrem Leben, ihre professionelle Entfaltung und welche Auswirkungen sie sozial auf das Umfeld der Künstler hat(te). Die Struktur des Textes und die Materialität der Sprache in Werken ist ebenfalls von Relevanz. Um eine abgerundete literarische Künstlerfigur zum Leben zu erwecken, verwendet der Autor bei der Entwicklung der Künstlerbiographie überlieferte Dokumenten. Es wird erforscht, wie sich der Autor der Malerfigur annähert, mit welchen Mitteln dieses geschieht und welche Informationen dazu von ihm verwendet und verarbeitet werden. Jedes Kapitel enthält auch informative Abschnitte über das Leben und das Werk sowohl der untersuchten Malerfiguren als auch der Autoren der analysierten literarischen Werke.
