Managing people in the hotel

Abstract:

akalářská práce se zabývá styly vedení lidí v hotelu. Cílem je analyzovat používané manažerské styly v běžné praxi s podáním následného doporučení, stanovit vhodnost používání jednotlivých stylů a způsobů vedení lidí v návaznosti na situace, které mohou při řízení hotelového provozu vzniknout. První část práce je věnována teoretickým východiskům, charakteristice a zhodnocení používaných stylů a způsobů vedení lidí. Vymezuje základní pojmy manažerských funkcí s následným zaměřením na funkci „vedení lidí“. Druhá, analytická část práce, vyhodnocuje průzkum reálně používaných stylů vedení lidí, na základě dotazníkového šetření 80 manažerů hotelového řetězce společnosti Danubius Health Spa Resort. Porovnává styly vedení manažerů jednotlivých hotelových úseků (stravovací, ubytovací, léčebný, technický) a na různé úrovni řízení (top management, střední a liniový). Ověřuje dvě hypotézy: H1: Manažery hotelového řetězce Danubius Health Spa Resort je v praxi více než z 60 % volen demokratický styl vedení lidí. H2: Ženy, v tomto řetězci, na rozdíl od mužů, inklinují v reálných situacích k volbě liberálního stylu vedení lidí. Předlohou pro identifikaci a analýzu stylů jsou teorie Klasické koncepce vedení lidí v propojení s Lickertovou teorií. Z výsledků analýzy je patrné, že manažeři hotelového provozu zkoumaného řetězce volí všeobecně nejčastěji v praxi styl demokratický, krom situací disciplinárního jednání a krizového řízení, při kterém volí kombinaci stylu byrokratického a autokratického. Manažeři linioví, ze stravovacího a zdravotního úseku, inklinují k byrokratickému a autokratickému stylu vedení lidí, což je dáno charakterem jejich práce. Ženy inklinují v reálných situacích k liberálnímu přístupu, častěji než muži, ale celkově je tento styl ve volbě manažerů zastoupen minimálně. Na základě výsledků analytické části je vedení společnosti navržen program vzdělávání pro manažery, zaměřený na zdokonalení manažerských dovedností, zejména techniky vedení lidí v podmínkách týmové práce.

Abstract:

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to analyze the managing styles used by managers in common practice with subsequent recommendations, to determine the suitability of using individual styles and ways of leading people in connection with situations that may arise in the management of hotel operations. The first part is devoted to the theoretical background, characterization and evaluation of used styles and ways of leading people. It defines the basic concepts of managerial functions with a subsequent focus on the "leadership" function. The second, analytical part of the thesis evaluates the survey of the real-world leadership styles based on a questionnaire survey of eighty hotel chain managers from the company Danubius Health Spa Resort. The analysis involves comparison of the management styles in the individual hotel sections (food nad beverage, accommodation, medical, technical) and at different levels of management (top management, middle, and line). Two hypotheses are veritified: H1: More than 60 % of the managers from the Danubius Health Spa Resort company prefere in practice the democratic leadership style. H2: Women in this chain, unlike men, tend to choose the liberal style of leadership in real situations. As a model for identifying and analyzing managing styles is the theory of the Classic concept of leading people in conjunction with Lickert's theory.The survey confirmed, that managers of the investigated hotel´s chain generally choose in practice democratic style, except the situations of the disciplinary and crisis management, in this situations is preffered the combination of bureaucratic and autocratic style. Line managers, from the food and beverage and healthcare sector, tend to use bureaucratic and autocratic style, due to the nature of their work. Women tend to preferre a liberal approach in real situations, more often than men, but in general, this style is used by the manager at a minimum. Based on the results of the analytical part, managers of the human resources department will designed a training program for managers, aimed at improving managerial skills, especially leadership techniques in teamwork.
