The possibility of classifying soils based on static penetration at selected locations in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Vzorky z 13 lokalit byly použity pro celkem 52 zrnitostních analýz zemin, které byly následně podle lokalizace a hloubky přiřazeny k výsledkům ze statických penetrací. Pří analýze zemin klasifikovaných podle zrnitostních analýz bylo zjištěno, že většina vzorků byla spíše jemnozrnná. Dále byly analyzovány výsledky odporu na hrotu a tření na plášti statických penetrací. Při následné korelaci statické penetrace a zrnitostních analýz bylo zjištěno, že existuje lineární závislost mezi odporem na hrotu qc a třením na plášti fs. Dále se ukázalo, že závislost byla o to větší, čím hrubozrnnější byla zemina. Dále bylo zjištěno, že čím větší je podíl jemnozrnné frakce v zemině, tím menší je rozptyl hodnot qc a fs. Při porovnávání odporu na hrotu qc a poměru tření Fr (Fr = (fs/qc) *100 %) bylo zjištěno, že data tvoří v grafu hyperbolu, jejíž poloha se mění podle zrnitosti zeminy. Vzhledem k tomu, že Robertsonův graf se neshodoval s výsledky, byla navržena klasifikace na základě poměru qc a fs, která se jeví jako přesnější. Tato klasifikace byla již dříve navržena Begemannem pro zeminy z Nizozemí.

Abstract:

Samples from 13 localities were used for correlation of cone penetration and grain analysis. Total of 52 grain analyses were conducted and then subsequently matched corresponding with results of cone penetration test (CPT) from the same depths. Analyses of soils based on the grain sizes revealed, that most of the studied soils are fine-grained. The samples were later analysed based on cone resistance (qc) and sleeve friction (fs). The correlation of cone penetration and grain analyses showed that there is a linear relationship between the cone resistance and sleeve friction. The coarse grained the soil is, the steeper the linear dependency is. Coarser-grained soils resulted in steeper linear dependency. More results revealed that higher representation of fine-grained sediments resulted in lower dispersion of qc and fs values. While comparing qc and friction ratio (Fr, Fr = (fs/qc) *100) it was revealed that data are forming hyperbole within the chart. This hyperbole is changing its position based on the grain-size of soils. Considering that Robertson´s classification table didn´t coincide with the results, other classification was proposed. This classification is based on comparing the qc and fs, which appeared to be more accurate. This classification is similar to Begemann´s classification that was made for soils analysed in Netherlands.
