Combining work and study for current university students

Abstract:

V České republice se setkáváme s rostoucím trendem kombinování vysokoškolského studia se zaměstnáním. Tato práce se tedy zaměřuje na problematiku kombinace studia s prací u současných studentů českých vysokých škol. Cílem práce bylo zjistit, jak studenti obecně zvládají tuto rovnováhu. Vedle toho jsem hlouběji zjišťovala, které konkrétní skupiny studentů v České republice se v současnosti věnují práci a jaký vliv má tato situace na jejich celkovou pohodu. Teoretická část práce se zabývá růstem vysokých škol a problémy spojenými s masifikací terciárního vzdělávání. Zá-roveň je v ní rozebíráno, jak se vysoké školy s těmito problémy vypořádávají a jak to může potenciálně ovlivnit samotné studenty. Následuje sekundární analýza dat ze šetření EUROSTUDENT ke zkoumání angažovanosti studentů na trhu práce a vlivu pracovních povinností na jejich pohodu. Výsledky naznačují, že gender, existence potomků a studijní obor hrají klíčovou roli ve vnímání a zvládání pracovních povinností ve studentském životě, což může významně ovlivnit úspěch studentů a jejich celkovou kvalitu života.

Abstract:

In the Czech Republic, we are experiencing a growing trend of combining higher education with employment. This theses focuses on the issue of combining studies with work among current students of Czech universities. The aim of the thesis was to find out how students generally manage this balance. In addition to this, I also investigated in depth which specific groups of students in the Czech Republic are currently engaged in work and what impact this situation has on their overall well-being. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the growth of universities and the problems associated with the massification of tertiary education. It also discusses how universities are dealing with these problems and how this can potentially affect the students themselves. This is followed by a secondary analysis of data from the EUROSTUDENT survey to examine students' engagement in the labour market and the impact of work responsibilities on their well-being. The results suggest that gen-der, having offspring and field of study play a key role in students' perceptions and coping with work-related responsibilities in their lives, which can significantly affect students' success and their overall quality of life.
