The Viability of PSSI and BPAQ Methods in Penitentiary Diagnostics

Abstract:

Diplomová práce shrnuje poznatky o osobnosti odsouzeného ve výkonu trestu odnětí svobody v trestněprávním kontextu. Cílem této práce bylo zjistit rozdíl ve stylech osobnosti a agresivitě mezi jednotlivými skupinami odsouzených (například prvověznění a recidivisté, pachatelé násilných a nenásilných trestných činů, pachatelé majetkových, hospodářských, sexuálních, násilných a drogových trestných činů). Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 106 odsouzených k výkonu trestu odnětí svobody do věznice Kuřim. Odsouzeným byl administrován Inventář stylů osobnosti a poruch osobnosti PSSI (Kuhl & Kazén, 2002) a Dotazník agresivity (The Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire; Buss & Perry, 1992). Bylo zjištěno, že u odsouzených byl nejvíce zastoupen kritický styl osobnosti a tendence k pasivně-agresivní poruše osobnosti. Nejméně byla ve výzkumném souboru zastoupena nutkavá porucha osobnosti. Byla prokázána vyšší míra některých stylů osobnosti u recidivistů a pachatelů násilných trestných činů. Prokázala se též vyšší míra agresivity u recidivistů, ovšem nebyl nalezen statisticky významný rozdíl v agresivitě mezi pachateli násilných a nenásilných trestných činů. Byla prokázána statisticky významná korelace mezi některými styly osobnosti a komponenty agresivity. Ověřili jsme též psychometrické vlastnosti obou dotazníků. U BPAQ se faktorovou analýzou nepotvrdilo rozdělení agresivity do daných čtyřech škál. Výsledky výzkumu je možné chápat jako ověření možnosti využití těchto metod v penitenciární diagnostice a jako podnět k dalšímu zkoumání v této oblasti.

Abstract:

The thesis sums up available knowledge on the personality of convicted offenders serving their prison term, including statistical data on prison population, all that being in a criminal-law context. The objective of the present thesis was to ascertain differences in personality styles and aggressiveness among the individual groups of convicted offenders (first prison sentence, repeat offenders, perpetrators of violent and non-violent crimes, perpetrators of property, economic, sexual, violent and drug crimes). The group under review consisted of 106 offenders serving a prison sentence in the Kuřim prison. The Personality Style and Disorder Inventory (PSSI, Kuhl & Kazen, 2002) and the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire (Buss & Perry, 1992) were administered to the offenders. It was ascertained that among the convicted offenders the critical personality style and a tendency towards the passive aggressive personality disorder prevailed. The least represented in the review group was the obsessive-compulsive personality disorder. Certain personality styles were proven to be more broadly represented among repeat offenders and perpetrators of violent crimes. Also confirmed was a higher degree of aggressiveness among repeat offenders but no statistically relevant difference between violent and non-violent offenders was established. We however confirmed a statistically relevant correlation between certain personality styles and components of aggressiveness. We also verified the psychometric features of both questionnaires. In the case of the BPAQ the factor analysis failed to confirm the four-factor structure of aggression. The results of the research can be viewed as a means of verifying the viability of such methods in penitentiary diagnostics and as an additional impetus for further research in this field.
