Education of Roma children in the preschool period

Abstract:

Téma této bakalářské diplomové práce je vzdělávání romských dětí v období předškolního věku. Hlavní pozornost je věnována nízké školní úspěšnosti romských děti a způsobům, kterými ji lze v období předškolního věku předcházet. Táto práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou a část aplikační. Teoretická část práce popisuje výchovu dětí v romské rodině a také příčiny a projevy nízké školní úspěšnosti romských dětí. V teoretické části jsou dále uvedeny způsoby, jimiž lze nízké školní úspěšnosti romských dětí v období předškolního věku předcházet – jako například přípravné ročníky či předškolní kluby. Je zde také věnována pozornost dokumentu nazvanému Rámcově vzdělávací program pro předškolní vzdělávání, kterým je předškolní vzdělávání řízeno, a poznatkům o předškolním věku z pohledu vývojové psychologie. Aplikační část práce obsahuje popis realizovaného programu předškolního klubu, který navrhla autorka. Tato část se skládá z popisu fungování předškolního klubu při Muzeu romské kultury v Brně a z návrhu a realizace vlastního programu. Při realizaci programu je využito metod zúčastněného nestrukturovaného pozorování, neformálních rozhovorů s pracovníky Muzea romské kultury a s rodiči, jejichž děti předškolní klub navštěvují.

Abstract:

The topic of this bachelor thesis is the education of Roma children in the preschool age. The main attention is paid to the low scholastic achievement of Roma children and the ways that can prevent it in the preschool age. The thesis is divided into the theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part describes the education of Roma children in the family, as well as the causes and symptoms of the poor scholastic achievement of Roma children. The theoretical part deals further with ways that can prevent the low scholastic achievement of Roma children in the preschool age – such as preparation classes or preschool clubs. It is devoted also to the document called Framework Educational Programme for Preschool Education that manages the preschool education and to the information about preschoolers from the perspective of the developmental psychology. The practical part contains the description of the realized programme of the preschool club designed by the author. This part consists of a description of how the preschool club by the Museum of Romany Culture in Brno operates and of the plan and implementation of the programme. When implementing the programme, the author used the methods of unstructured observation, and informal interviews with the staff of the Museum of Romany Culture and with parents of children who attend the preschool club.
