Analysis of inflation in the Czech Republic in comparison with selected euro area countries in 2004-2019

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce analyzuje vývoje inflace v České republice a vybraných zemích eurozóny v letech 2004-2019. Práce zkoumá příčiny tohoto vývoje a faktory s ním spojené. Teoretická část práce se zaměřuje na inflaci, její druhy, příčiny, spojitost s nezaměstnaností a způsoby jejího měření. Cílem práce je ověřit hypotézu, zda byl v dlouhodobém časovém horizontu vývoj inflace v České republice stabilnější než v ostatních sledovaných zemích. Empirická část práce se tak zabývá nejprve analýzou těchto časových řad. Následně pak spotřebními koši sledovaných zemích a vnímanou a očekávanou inflací, jakožto dalšími faktory, které mají na vývoj inflace vliv. Hlavní hypotéza je po tomto zkoumání zamítnuta. Česká republika v dlouhodobém horizontu nedosahuje největší stability, kvůli několika výkyvům, které ve sledovaném období nastaly. Ty byly nejčastěji způsobeny změnami cen ropy, růstem daní nebo například zvyšujícími se cenami potravin.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis analyzes the development of inflation in the Czech Republic and selected euro area countries in the years 2004-2019. The thesis examines the causes of this evolution and the factors associated with them. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on inflation, its types, causes, connection with unemployment and methods of measuring it. The aim of this work is to verify the hypothesis whether in the long term the evolution of inflation in the Czech Republic was more stable than in other countries. The empirical part of the thesis deals with the analysis of these time series. Then with the consumer baskets of the monitored countries and perceive and expect inflation, as other factors that affect the development of inflation. The main hypothesis is rejected after this examination. The Czech Republic does not achieve the greatest stability in the long term, it influences several fluctuations that occurred in the monitored period. These were once caused by changes in oil prices, rising taxes or, for example, rising food prices.
