Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis thoroughly analyzes one of the latest subsets of critical geopolitics - popular geopolitics - and applies its current theoretical framework to a total amount of five case studies. It also hints at its apparent defficiencies in certain aspects, argues for higher academic attention and makes an ultimate case for a wider reevaluation of the entire subdiscipline. The first chapter briefly explores the turbulent development of traditional, and what was later dubbed critical, theories of geopolitics, introduces the most significant theorists and contextualizes their works. The second chapter encompasses the individual case studies and employs various concepts and postulations from the previous chapter. The conclusion summarizes our most important findings and elucidates the contemporary clash of traditional and critical geopolitics and an ongoing analytical struggle among popular geopoliticians.

Abstract:

Tato práce analyzuje jeden z nejnovějších podoborů kritické geopolitiky - populární geopolitiku - a na celkem pěti případových studiích aplikuje její současný teoretický rámec, přičemž v některých ohledech poukazuje na jeho nedostatky a zasazuje se o větší akademickou pozornost a širší paradigmatickou reevaluaci celého podoboru. V první části je stručně nastíněn vývoj klasických, a v pozdější části i kritických, geopolitických teorií, jejich nejvýznamnější představitelé a dobový kontext. V druhé části jsou pak podrobně představeny jednotlivé případové studie a aplikovány koncepty z předcházející kapitoly. V samotném závěru jsou shrnuta nejvýznamnější zjištění a také je nastíněn současný střet mezi zastánci klasické a kritické geopolitiky a také analytický rozkol uvnitř teoretiků populární geopolitiky.
