The effectiveness of central bank instruments in the fight against inflation (the example of the Czech Republic in the period 2021 to 2023)

Abstract:

Tato práce se zaměřuje na objevení ekonomických fundamentů determinujících míru inflace v ČR. Statistická analýza potvrdila silnou korelaci mezi měnovým agregátem M2, cenami výrobců (PPI), produkční mezerou a mírou inflace. Grangerovy testy kauzality následně prokázali časovou korespondenci těchto fundamentů a míry inflace. V další části se táto práce věnuje shrnutí variantních názorů českých ekonomů v problematikách charakteru inflace a úrokové politiky ČNB. V poslední části je formulován vlastní názor na tyto problematiky na základě nalezených souvislosti a argumentů.

Abstract:

This paper focuses on the discovery of economic fundamentals determining the inflation rate in the Czech Republic. Statistical analysis confirmed a strong correlation between monetary aggregate M2, producer prices (PPI), output gap and inflation rate. Granger causality tests subsequently showed a temporal correspondence between these fundamentals and the inflation rate. In the next section, this paper summarizes the variant views of Czech economists on the issues of the nature of inflation and the CNB's interest rate policy. In the last part, the author formulates his own opinion on these issues on the basis of the found connections and arguments.
