Memories of Contemporary Witnesses as Collection Item of Museums

Abstract:

The present thesis focuses on the memories, a specific collection item of the museums. The aim of the thesis is to do the research in the current museum practice based on the analysis of Czech and foreign literature which is supported by the interviews with curators from Czech museums. First, the thesis introduces the historical and theoretical background of the acquisition of memories as a source and at the same time presents the oral-historical method that is associated with it. Subsequently, it analyses the current position of memories in the museum environment and all the positives and difficulties that museums have to face in order to collect and preserve these items. Although a question of the form of the memories has become a crucial part of the thesis, the greatest emphasis is paid to the musealisation process itself. The outcome of the thesis is therefore a primary methodological material dealing with individual problems and specifics that occur during the acquisition, record keeping, preservation, presentation and further processing of the memories.

Abstract:

Predkladaná diplomová práca sa zameriava na špecifický zbierkový predmet spomienok pamätníkov. Jej cieľom je pozrieť sa na súčasnú múzejnú prax, na základe analýzy českej i zahraničnej odbornej literatúry, ktorá je podopretá rozhovormi s pracovníkmi z českých múzeí. Najprv predstavuje historické a teoretické pozadie získavania spomienok ako prameňa a orálno-historickú metódu, ktorá je s tým spojená. Následne analyzuje ich súčasné postavenie v múzejnom prostredí a všetky pozitíva a úskalia, ktorým múzeá musia čeliť pri ich zbere a uchovávaní. Kľúčovou sa tu stala aj otázka podoby a formy spomienok. Najväčší dôraz je však venovaný samotnému muzealizačnému procesu. Výstupom je tak prvotný metodologický materiál pojednávajúci o jednotlivých problémoch a špecifikách, vyskytujúcich sa počas akvizície, evidencie, uchovávania, prezentácie a ďalšieho spracovania spomienok.
