Language and user interface for router configuration

Abstract:

The goal of this thesis is to design and implement configuration interfaces for routers. The resulting applications are supposed to become the main configuration frontends for the Netopeer part of the Liberouter (http://www.liberouter.org) project. The Netopeer XML schema was chosen as a template for the internal representation of the configuration data. The final internal syntax tree is not static but is being automatically generated from the schema when needed. The desig ned configuration system is not limited to one particular schema. This flexibility is demonstrated on a configuration of a FlowMon probe (network flow monitoring device). Two different interfaces are implemented -- a command-line interface similar to a command shell and a full-screen textual interface similar to a file manager. Both interfaces are written for Linux and *BSD operating systems and are licensed under GNU GPL.
