Crisis management during the Czech EU Presidency: a comparative case study

Abstract:

Tato práce zkoumá zvládání krizí během českého předsednictví v Radě EU a jeho význam pro úspěšnost předsednictví. Teoretická část představuje charakteristiku předsednictví a rozdělení krizí. Metodologická část se zaměřuje na komparativní případovou studii a proces tracing method. Empirická část analyzuje postup českého předsednictví při řešení čtyř krizí. Porovnává se způsoby řešení a vliv času a rolí předsedajícího státu. Výsledky ukazují vývoj způsobů řešení a silnou spolupráci s Evropskou komisí. Práce přispívá k lepšímu poznání zvládání krizí v EU.

Abstract:

This thesis examines crisis management during the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU and its importance for the success of the Presidency. The theoretical part presents the characteristics of the Presidency and the distribution of crises. The methodological part focuses on a comparative case study and the process tracing method. The empirical part analyses the process of the Czech Presidency in dealing with four crises. It compares the resolution methods and the impact of time and the role of the presiding state. The results show the evolution of the resolution methods and the strong cooperation with the European Commission. The thesis contributes to a better understanding of crisis management in the EU.
