Construction of Gender in Family Social Work

Abstract:

Předkládaná disertační práce nabízí analýzu dominantního genderového diskurzu v sociální práci. Práce je psána z metodologické pozice interpretativismu, konstrukcionismu a poststrukturalistického feminismu s přesahem do oblasti kritické (anti-neoliberální) teorie. Provedený kvalitativní výzkum je zaměřen na skupinu sociálních pracovnic a pracovníků sociálně aktivizačních služeb pro rodiny s dětmi na území Moravskoslezského kraje a na jejich konstrukce otců-klientů a matek-klientek. Cílem disertační práce je odpovědět na výzkumnou otázku: Jak sociální pracovníci a pracovnice sociálně aktivizačních služeb pro rodiny s dětmi konstruují význam genderu svých klientů a klientek, a jak se tato konstrukce projevuje v jejich jednání s těmito klienty a klientkami? Získaná data ukazují, že sociální pracovnice a pracovníci konstruují matky v prvé řadě jako pečovatelky a otce jako živitele a jak dochází ke konzervaci tohoto modelu. Tento tradiční model genderových rolí v rodině je stereotypní a stereotypizující, sociálními pracovnicemi a pracovníky je však považován za přirozený a funkční, přičemž není kriticky reflektován. To ovlivňuje práci s rodinou jako celkem a vede ve svém důsledku k bariérám sociální práce s otci.

Abstract:

The submitted dissertation thesis offers a analysis of dominant gender discourse in social work. The thesis is written from the methodological position of interpretivism, constructionism and poststructuralist feminism with an overlap into the area of critical (anti-neoliberal) theory. The qualitative research carried out is aimed at a group of social workers of social activation services for families with children in the Moravian-Silesian Region and their construction of fathers-clients and mothersclients. The dissertation aims to address the research question: How do social workers of socially active services construct the importance of gender of their clients and how does this construction manifest in their dealings with these clients? The data obtained shows that social workers construct mothers first of all as caregivers while fathers are seen as breadwinners. This approach maintains this model. The traditional model of gender family roles is stereotypical and stereotyping, however social workers consider it natural and functional, and it is not critically reflected. This fact affects work with the family as a whole and leads, as a result, to barriers in social work with fathers.
