Emotions in Michal Viewegh´s Work, Criticism of Translation

Abstract:

This diploma thesis focused on the analysis of expression, description and evocation of emotions in the work of Michal Viewegh Zapisovatelé Otcovský lásky and his German translation Die Liebe eines Vaters by the Austrian translator Johanna Posset. The diploma thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part describes the definition of translation, the process of the translation, the types of translation of translation, the person of the translator and concepts such as literary translation and criticism of translation. The next chapter, entitled emotions, mentions the definitions of emotions and categories. Another subchapter of emotions discusses emotional linguistics at different language levels. The last chapters of the theoretical part belong to the biographies of Michal Viewegh and Johanna Posset. In the practical part, an analysis of individual passages with the theme of emotions in the Czech and German versions of the novel is performed. Examples of emotions of fear, resistance, joy and happiness, love, sadness, anger and shame are discussed. The last chapter of the practical part deals with peculiarities such as general Czech, colloquial expressions and domestic names in the original and translation with regard to emotionality.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na rozbor vyjádření, popisu a vyvolání emocí v díle Michala Viewegha Zapisovatelé otcovský lásky a jeho německého překladu Die Liebe eines Vaters od rakouské překladatelky Johanny Posset. Diplomová práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. Teoretická část popisuje definice překladu, postup překladatelského procesu, typy překladu, osobu překladatele a pojmy jako literární překlad a kritika překladu. V další kapitole teoretické části s názvem emoce jsou zmíněny definice emocí a kategorie. Další podkapitola emocí rozebírá emoční lingvistiku na různých jazykových rovinách. Poslední kapitoly teoretické části patří biografiím Michala Viewegha a Johanny Posset. V praktické části je provedena analýza jednotlivých pasáží s tematizací emocí v české a německé verzi románu. Rozebírány jsou příklady emocí strachu, odporu, radosti a štěstí, lásky, smutku, zlosti a studu. Poslední kapitola praktické části se zabývá zvláštnostmi jako jsou především obecná čeština, hovorové výrazy a domácké jména v originále a překladu s ohledem na emocionalitu.
