Surface-passivated iron nanoparticles

Abstract:

Předložená disertace je zaměřena do oblastí nanotechnologie, materiálového výzkumu a magnetismu pevných látek. Pojednává o Fe-C nanoprášcích syntetizovaných metodou laserem iniciované pyrolýzy plynné směsi. Hlavní důraz je kladen na popis strukturních a magnetických vlastností syntetizovaných nanoprášků a na zkoumání vysokoteplotního chování při jejich žíhání. Vyžíhané vzorky jsou také studovány. V teoretické části se popisuje nejprve magnetické chování individuálních neinteragujících jednodoménových nanočástic, jejichž magnetický moment je buď stabilní a nebo jeho orientace vlivem teploty fluktuuje (superparamagnetismus). Další podkapitola se zabývá stavem superspinového skla a stavem superferomagnetickým. Následuje přehled alotropických forem uhlíku a železa, struktur karbidů železa a fázových transformací v systému Fe-C. V experimentální části se popisují metody rentgenové difrakce, Ramanovy spektroskopie, magnetických měření ve stejnosměrném magnetickém poli a Mössbauerovy spektrometrie. Nejobsažnější je podkapitola zabývající se Mössbauerovou spektrometrií, což byla klíčová experimentální metoda. V části týkající se laserem iniciované pyrolýzy plynné směsi jsou popsány princip této metody a plynné prekurzory. Ve třetí části jsou prezentovány výsledky zkoumání čtyř vybraných Fe-C nanoprášků. Vzorky byly studovány ve stavu po jejich syntéze a pak byly žíhány (jako slisované tablety) při 800 °C po 30 minut ve vakuu. Nejprve byl studován prášek s agregovanými Fe3C nanočásticemi pokrytými pyrolytickým uhlíkem přičemž prášek obsahoval minoritní α Fe2O3 a Fe3O4 fáze. Provedená nízkoteplotní ZFC/FC měření v DC/AC magentických polích přispívají k analýze vlastností podobných Fe3C nanoprášků provedenou jinými autory. Po vyžíhání při 800 °C byl vzorek kovově lesklý a měl složení nadeutektoidní Fe-C slitiny. Následně byly zkoumány dva nanoprášky syntetizované z různých plynných prekurzorů avšak vykazující podobné žíhací vlastnosti. Nanoprášky obsahovaly velmi jemné nanočástice karbidů a oxidů železa a uhlíkovou čerň jakožto významnou fázi. Při ohřívání ve vakuu začaly α-Fe nanočástice nukleovat a růst při 500 °C. Po vyžíhání při 800 °C byla právě α-Fe fáze detekována jakožto dominantní fáze. α-Fe nanočástice ve vyžíhaných vzorcích byly pokryty vrstou grafitu. Nakonec byl studován nanoprášek s velmi jemnými nanočásticemi karbidů železa rozptýlených v uhlíkové matrici. Při ohřívání ve vakuu železné částice (pravděpodobně Fe3C) katalyzovaly grafitizaci uhlíku. Po vyžíhání při 800 °C byly detekovány jen α-Fe, Fe3C a grafit a vzorek obsahoval značné množství zakřivených grafitických struktur a i jisté množství vícestěnných uhlíkových nanotrubek. Původní syntetizovaný nanoprášek lze použít jako prekurzor při syntéze uhlíkových nanotrubek chemickou depozicí z plynů. Práce je napsána česky.

Abstract:

The submited thesis belongs to the fields of materials science, nanotechnology, and nanomagnetism. It is devoted to the Fe–C-based nanopowders synthesised by the method of laser-induced pyrolysis of a gas mixture. The main focus is on the description of the structural and magnetic properties of nanopowders and the investigation of their high temperature annealing properties. Annealed nanopowders are studied too. In the theoretical part the magnetic behaviour of individual noninteracting single domain nanoparticles – both with stable and thermally fluctuating particle magnetic moment – is described. Further the superspin glass state and superferromagnetic state are reviewed. The subchapters concerning the allotropic forms of carbon and iron, structures of iron carbides, and the phase transformations in the Fe-C system follow. In the experimental part X ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, DC magnetic measurements and Mössbauer spectrometry are described. The most comprehensive is the subchapter dealing with transmission Mössbauer spectrometry. The subchapter about laser induced pyrolysis covers the principle of this method and gaseous precursors. In the third part the results of the investigation of four selected Fe–C-based nanopowders are presented. Samples were studied in the as-prepared state and then annealed (as tablets) at 800 °C for 30 minutes in vacuum. Firstly, the powder with agregated Fe3C nanoparticles covered with pyrolytic carbon and containing minority phases α Fe2O3 and Fe3O4 was studied. The low temperature ZFC/FC measurements in DC/AC magnetic fields extend the analysis of the similar samples performed by other authors. After annealing at 800 °C sample turned into a shiny piece of Fe–C alloy with hypereutectoid composition. Secondly, two nanopowders synthesised from different precursors but exhibiting similar annealing behaviour were investigated. Nanopowders consisted of very fine iron carbides and iron oxides nanoparticles and carbon black as an important phase. By heating in vacuum α-Fe nanoparticles started nucleate and grow at 500 °C. After annealing at 800 °C just α-Fe was detected as the dominant phase. α-Fe nanoparticles in the annealed samples were covered with grafitic layer. Thirdly, the nanopowder with very fine iron carbide particles dispersed in carbon matrix was studied. By heating the sample in vacuum, iron particles (probably Fe3C) catalysed graphitisation of carbon. After annealing at 800 °C only α-Fe, Fe3C and graphite were detected. The sample contained large amount of various curved carbon structures and even a certain amout of carbon nanotubes. The as synthesised nanopowder can be used as a precursor by the chemical vapour deposition synthesis of multiwalled carbon nanotubes. The work is written in the Czech language.
