Implicit and explicit racism towards Roma in context of need for cognitive closure, social dominance orientation and belief in a just world

Abstract:

Tématem práce je popis kognitivních dispozic stojících v pozadí rasistických postojů a předsudků. Cílem je popsat implicitní a explicitní rasismus vůči romskému etniku v kontextu Potřeby kognitivního uzavření (NCC), Orientace na sociální dominanci (SDO) a Obecné víry ve spravedlivý svět (BJW), a to na základě výzkumu jak u majoritní, tak romské populace. V teoretické části jsou popsány jednotlivé konstrukty i jejich souvislost s rasismem, ve výzkumné části jsou vzájemné vztahy ověřeny. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 30 romských a 30 majoritních respondentů, k měření byly použity NCCS (Škála potřeby kognitivního uzavření), SDOS (Škála orientace na sociální dominanci, MRS (Škála moderního rasismu), SBRS (Škála skrytého a očividného rasismu) a IAT (Implicitní asociační test). Zjištěn byl středně silný záporný vztah implicitního a explicitního rasismu. Dále byl nalezen statisticky významný rozdíl mezi implicitním rasismem vůči cizí skupině u romské a majoritní části vzorku. Zatímco u majority byla zjištěna zřetelná preference vlastní skupiny, postoj Romů vůči majoritě a vlastní skupině byl vyrovnaný. Nalezen byl mírný pozitivní vztah NCC a explicitního rasismu a mírný pozitivní vztahu SDO a explicitního rasismu. Vztah NCC a SDO s implicitně měřeným rasismem nalezen nebyl. Stejně tak vztah BJW a explicitního ani implicitního rasismu nebyl prokázán.

Abstract:

The topic of this thesis is description of cognitive dispositions being in relationship with racist attitudes and prejudice. The aim is to describe both implicit and explicit racism toward Roma ethnic group in context of Need for Cognitive Closure, Social Dominance Orientation and Belief in a Just World, on the basis of research in both majority and Roma population. All the constructs and their links with racism are described in the theoretical part, their relationships with racism are verified in the experimental part of the thesis. 30 Roma and 30 majority people participated in this study. Need for Cognitive Closure Scale, Social Dominance Orientation Scale, General Belief in a Just World Scale, Modern Racism Scale, Subtle and Blatant Racism Scale and Implict Asociation Test were used to measure. Negative relationship of implicit and explicit racism was found. Roma and majority people significantly differed in the extent of racism towards out-group. Majority people prefered their own group obviously, attitude of Roma toward their own group and majority was equitable. A gentle positive realtionship of NCC and explicit racism and a gentle positive relationship of SDO and explicit racism were found. Relationship of NCC and SDO with implicitly measured racism were not found as well as the relationship of BJW and explicit and implicit racism were not proved.
